Re: Tinting tails help

Sounds like you did not wet sand them smooth if you have orange peel in them..

Re: Tinting tails help

1) Wet sand tail lights with 2000 grit. Until entire lens is dull (Add a little dish soap)
2) Spray 2-3 coats of VHT nightshades (waiting 10 min in between)
3) After about 20 min, 4 coats of automotive spray clear coat (10 min in between)

LET IT SIT OVER NIGHT

4) Wet sand with 2000 grit again, until dull (Add a little dish soap like dawn)

5) Use a rubbing compound (Easier to mount them on the car so you dont drop them and you can rub very hard) This will bring the gloss back and make them shine

6) Use a liquid polish. This makes it look like glass.

I messed up my first set of tail lights.. Stripped the paint back off and started over.

Re: Tinting tails help

also it's important to spray them in the correct pattern. do the perimeter first by spraying off the light then over one edge at a time.

then fill it in by making light passes that start and end OFF the sides. that will help you get a nice even coat.

Re: Tinting tails help

I would go one more coat. mine have three coats. also you can leave your mask on for clear or take it off, really won't matter too much either way. I left mine on.

Re: Tinting tails help

OCD kicked in and I decided to sand the tails down some and put another 2 coats on of tint then. More clear and they came out much better ... Still have to sand polish and wax
