TPMS not reading correct wheel.

I've found numerous posts about TPMS warnings, but haven't been able to find anything about the TPMS reading the wrong wheel. Yesterday, the TPMS on our 2005 5.7 should the right rear tire pressure at 29 and the left rear tire pressure at 33. I added air to the right rear to bring it up to the rest of the tires. After doing so, the right rear still read 29, but the left rear now read 36. Is there anyway to reset this to "find" the correct wheel?

Thanks in advance!

Re: TPMS not reading correct wheel.

Go to a reputable tire shop and have them put their TPMS Sensor reading (diagnostic) tool on each wheel. It'll take less than 5 minutes to do all four. If they have a decent tool it'll read the following information:

1. Sensor ID number
2. Frequency Sensor transmits at (should be 315 mhz on your 05)
3. Battery Status
4. Current tire pressure of that tire
5. Current temperature of air in the tire

Then compare the tire pressures, using your gauge, with the ones they just read off the sensors. That'll tell you if your tire gauge is off or one or more sensors is transmitting bogus information. Since yours is an 05, it's very possible that the batteries are starting to fail. Expected life is usually 8-10 years. If the vehicle is low mileage, they may last a little longer.

Re: TPMS not reading correct wheel.

Thanks Jeepgcoman. Just to be clear, the numbers I listed were from the Jeeps internal gauge. Would a weak battery cause the system to lose which wheel is being registered?

Thanks again!

Re: TPMS not reading correct wheel.

Possibly. Having the sensors read and comparing those readings with your EVIC readout, and also check them with a good gauge, will tell you where the fault lies, if it's a reading accuracy issue.. I don't think a weak battery will cause an error in which tire is being registered though. I'd have to do a little research on that one since, in the rear, there is only one receiver located in the right rear wheel well. It also reads the spare. There is no receiver in the left rear wheel well, since the system uses "the process of elimination" to know which one is the left rear....a receiver in both fronts and the right rear, so the other is obviously the left rear.

I think I'd do the simple stuff first, so you can determine the status of the various components. Once that's been verified good, then go from there. Are you getting any codes?
