Trans leak please help!

Hey everyone!

Hopefully you are all staying warm this winter.

This past summer, I noticed a small leak on the ground in my garage. I sampled the fluid and it was trans fluid. I took the vehicle in for a service at the local trans shop, who are reputable, but not familiar with my Mercedes trans. They diagnosed it as being the pan gasket that was leaking. It was promptly changed, but the leak persisted two weeks later. Took it back and after the shop repaired and returned the vehicle for the second time, I have not seen a drop of fluid anywhere...until this morning. Sure enough, same size droplet, also trans fluid, in the same location underneath the vehicle. I already have an appointment with the trans shop and they will cover any of their repairs under warranty, no biggie. My concern is that they have not identified the correct source of the leak. According to the research I did, some say that the NAG 1 trans has an electrical plug with two o-rings that are prone to the same leakage. But I have no clue if my trans is a NAG 1, or if there are any other typical problems that I should be aware of. My Jeep is a 2007 GC Lmtd. w/Hemi. If you have any suggestions or advice to as what could be the cause of this leak, please feel free to share them here. I appreciate the help, guys!

If you have the hemi, you have the 545rfe transmission (not the Mercedes transmission) It is very common for places inexperienced with servicing the transmission to not seal the pan back up properly. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the cause. The metal/flex transfer lines running to the cooler are also prone to leaking, but this usually happens at the transmission cooler. I am not sure if there are any plugs etc. that are prone to leaking.

Re: Trans leak please help!

The preformed gaskets used by most shops can be a problem. I have used them before, but for me only RTV. They could try and retorque the bolts.
