Transfer Case :(

Hey Guys! I need to replace my transfer case on a 05 WK Hemi. Anybody have any idea on how much this should cost?

I had an extended warranty but the warranty company said its void due to the fact that I put OME Springs and OME Shocks on the truck. Even though the Service 4wd system and the service electrical Brake system were already on.

Re: Transfer Case :(

What's the mileage and since it had the extended warranty why didn't you bring it in before? I bet the Service 4WD System just needs an update and/or a new Diff sensor for the rear.

Did you ever change the Transfer Case fluid???

Check eBay you can find them for around $400-$600 used with probably around 40k-60k.

http://car-part.com/

You can get ones with 50,000 miles or so for around $600-700...usually local which saves big on shipping such a heavy part.

Not too bad to swap out yourself if you have a access to a lift.

If going the used route, I would replace seals before installing just to prevent any future issues.

Labour shouldn't be too bad if you have a shop install it for you.

If you want new, you're looking at a couple grand...easy...

Re: Transfer Case :(

I'm failing to see how springs and shocks would mess with the transfer case. Do you have larger tires?

You may want to look into the magnusson moss act.

Mileage is around 70K and I should have brought it in before putting the springs and shocks on but I didn't think it was the transfer case being that the truck seemed to be working fine just the service electrical brake, 4wd system would come up. Figured it was just a some stupid sensors or something.

Never changed the transfer case fluid have only had the truck for like 3 months.

I agree with you on the shocks and springs effecting the transfer case I don't get it and yes I put on stock JK Sahara wheels. Not that much larger then what was stock on my truck.

The warranty company just keeps saying that the contract is VOID due too it being MODIFIED. Even though I have physical proof that all the lights went on before the lift.

I have removed the truck from the dealer and brought it too a transmission guy that I have used before on one of my work trucks. But the warranty company has not heard the last of me. I will be consulting a lawyer about this matter.

They also replaced two electric actuators in both the front and rear. Which I was told in the beginning would be covered and then the dealer found the transfer case being damaged. So the warranty company sent out someone to come look at it and denied the entire thing!!!!

What is the magnusson moss act?

The magnusson moss act is basically a way of telling your warrenty company to prove that the modification you did caused the issue, if you have proof it all happened before you did the lift, you have smooth sailing ahead of you.

read through that, do some more digging, the second link will be more geared towards the wording and information you are looking for.

Re: Transfer Case :(

Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. If the dealer cannot prove such a claim — or it proffers a questionable explanation — it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission administers the Magnuson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

Re: Transfer Case :(

Agreed ^^^ do exactly as was suggested. The burden is on them to prove this.

With that said there may be some further stressors for you, mainly being I dont know what your dealer did to "diagnose" the problem, to me with the solenoids being replaced in both diffs and it didnt fix it, it seems like they are DTC diagnosing the problems, how can any dealer or warranty company say that a dtc is caused by a lift when they havent even torn it apart to verify the failure. That said typically when we do large repairs at work for warranty companys its on the customer to authorize tear down, if its covered then the tear down cost is on the warranty company, if its not covered its on the customer to pay for the labor that has already been accrued along with any further repair or assembly requested at that point.

Re: Transfer Case :(

That is AWESOME!!!! Thanks guys!! I already removed the truck from the dealer and brought it too a transmission guy that I know does good work. I am not done with the dealer though. I am just not going to wait around for my truck anymore. The dealer had it since the 13th!!!!!
