transmission upshifts to early

Hello guys I have a 2005 wk limited 4.7. I have researched everywhere with no luck. My problem is the trans seem to be upshifting way to early. while going up a hill or putting veh under a load the trans will upshift when it needs to down shift. example: I had a atv on a 5X8 trailer and the jeep was struggling to pull it. I had trans in tow haul mode started up small incline when i mashed the gas the trans upshifted to a higher gear i had to mash it to the floor then it dropped all the way to 2nd. it also does this while not pulling a load or in tow haul mode.seems like the trans mission upshifts way to early all the time. Not sure if its the lock up on the converter or the gearing of the trans. Thanks for taking the time to read

Re: transmission upshifts to early

Welcome to the garage.
The transmission controller (part of the PCM) has several shift schedules in its memory and uses TPS and input/output speed sensor info to calculate the right shift points. Is the TCM software up to date?
Did you check if there is any fault code stored in the TCM?

Re: transmission upshifts to early

I am not sure if its up to date. I have only owned the jeep about 8 months. Will the dealer have to check for codes in the tcm? Also under heavy acceleration from a slow speed it kinda hesitates then goes the hesitates again, kinda klike it is being held back. Not a miss or anything just kinda a slight bog.

Re: transmission upshifts to early

To resolve your issue, you need to purchase a Superchips Tuner with the add-on Advanced Transmission Tuning Application. It will allow you to not only modify the engine tune, but also adjust ALL up and down shift schedules as well as wide open throttle upshifts and torque management for all forward gears. On mine, in addition to the tuner and ATT App, I've also added a Sonnax Line Pressure Booster and Transgo Valve Body Shift Kit. My 545RFE now works about as good as possible without doing a complete performance rebuild.

With the aftermarket camshaft that I have in my Hemi, I needed to move all my light throttle shift points to a higher RPM because of the cam's torque/horsepower curve. All of my light throttle upshifts now occur around 2200-2400 RPM or so. My wide open throttle upshifts are set at 6200 RPM and all of my downshifts are set so there is absolutely no lugging of the engine at any point.
