Re: Troubelshooting heat
Hi, and welcome to the forum. An easy check is to push the Recirculation button when the heat is selected and the fan is on high. If the sound level changes (gets louder) it is probably NOT the blend door. When the blend door closes to recirc. the inside air, the noise level increases. If the noise level stays the same, it is most likely the infamous blend door actuator gear. This is a very common problem and I just had to change it on mine last month. On mine, I could tell something was up though because I started hearing a loud "snapping" noise when I pushed the recirc. button. After a few times of that I didn't hear the noise anymore. That's when the crappy plastic gear had completely separated from the gear hub. Hopefully this is your problem too. If not the repair gets very expensive as it is probably a problem within the Air Distribution Housing. I understand this requires the removal of the dash to get to this component.
The gear is a fairly easy piece to replace (should take an hour or less) and the cost of the "new improved" gear is less than $20. I would highly recommend you NOT take it to a stealer for this as, in many cases, they'll take you to the cleaners and tell you the dash has to be removed.....not so for the gear problem. Do a search on this forum for this issue by typing in, "blend door problem" and you'll get lots of hits on the various possible issues that could be causing your problem. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
