When i turn the heat on sound like a pulley is rattling?

It is a 06 with the 3.7 anyone ever run into this? Ive searched and searched but all answers just beat around the bush

I wouldn't imagine that amount of load would affect the alternator...

Are you sure it isn't coming from the AC compressor? Depending on the HVAC settings, the compressor can come on to dry the air and could make a noise like you describe. You should be able to watch the AC clutch engage and disengage as the compressor cycles and see if the noise is coming from one of those two states.

I've been doing the same research and from what i can understand its more trouble then it's worth to try to replace just the pulley and or clutch....also I've read that it may be the bearing so go figure changers pulley or clutch and find out it's the bearing that would be a total bummer! So I found new a/c compressors complete assembly's for around 225-325 which IMO is worth it to go that route an also less troublesome... Depending on your budget could also vary that...I would also recommend putting a new let on while your at and keep the old as a spare I've done that on all my jeeps and its saved me many times.....hope this helps you and good luck!

My friend said similiar thing, the whole unit, installed i think somewhere around $500.
? for you, do you notice a slight rattle when you accelerate also?

I changed my belt, because it was sqeeling terribly, so that went away, but when I turn the ac on (only ac, not heat) it sqeals for a sec bad and goes away. Then will randomly squal while driving. (Embarrasing!) So, my friend said the ac clutch looks rusted etc which is where we have it narrowed down to. And cant find just the pulley only the unit w clutch :( Just dont wanna spend the $ on that and have the same thing happening. THinking of doing the ac compressor and belt tensioner. Dont mean to highjack, just curious cause problem sounds pretty similiar.

I didn't have any squealing problems although the belt does look tired the a/c compressor makes a good amount of racket when I put my ear up to it I can tell that's exactly what it is same case as yours from the sounds of it....and don't worry about high jacking my thread sounds like we're in this together lol and I agree on not spending the money but I just don't want it to turn into something else from that part being stressed

I always find this is the best place to start!! Very helpful info on these boards. Plus u made a good point bout replacing the whole unit, i was gonna go the cheaper route and try to find just the clutch, but, in the end if its a bearing, id be pretty pissed to have to do the whole unit after tracking down just the clutch in the first place. lol. Rock Auto seemed to have decent prices on the whole unit with the clutch. Think I may do it on my next oil change, so if you get yours done first and find it fixes the problem, let me knw if you dont mind. I'll do the same!
