Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

Does anybody know where the windscreen (windshield) washer pump is on a 3.0 CRD engine bay?

This morning my windscreen washer stopped working on the front and back. I can hear the pump, and the washer is filled to the top, but nothing is coming out.

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

Not sure where it is for you (it was just inside the front bumper on the driver side for me). Just follow your fill cap down and see where the reservoir is.

My issue was the washer fluid built up into a 'goop' at the point where the line that goes to the pump met the tank (reservoir). I just pulled that line off (be ready for washer fluid to spray everywhere) and removed the 'goopy' mess that was blocking the line and put the line back into the reservoir.

Went and checked it and both front and rear sprayers worked.

Cheers for the reply.

Have stuck my head under the bonnet, but it doesnt seem obvious to me. The space around the engine is a bit tight, will post up a pic shortly.

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

Good to hear you got it fixed Matt. I guess thats why BMW uses rubbing alcohol for washer fluid.

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

Could it be that your lines froze? I'm not sure how cold it is in London...?

I thought I took a picture of what I did... I'll have to check when I get home from work.

If not, I can snap a few pics of what I did when I get out of work - 5pm EST.

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

It's a white tank in front of your driver-side tire. Follow the fill cap down.

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

just a reminder. some times this solution can be as easy as the distributer line that hold the washer fluid has come loose off its connection.

hope its as easy fix as this^^

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

Hi Guys,

Does anybody know the EXACT routing of the hose/tubing for the rear washer (just from the tank/pump as far as the firewall)? My 2005 spills washer fluid out on the ground just below and behind the firewall. The front washers work fine. There's no fluid noticeable in the engine compartment or in the passenger compartment, but I haven't been able to see the hose/tubing for the rear washer under the hood.

The front washer plumbing consists of a small diameter rubber hose (6) or hard plastic tubing that is routed along with the rear washer plumbing (4) from the washer reservoir (1) located at the left front corner of the engine compartment. Both hoses or tubes are attached to their respective front or rear outlet nipple of the washer pump/motor unit (2) near the bottom of the reservoir. The hoses are then secured by three plastic push-in type retainers (3) to the left side sheet metal within the engine compartment to the left side of the dash panel (11).

From the dash panel, the two washer hoses or tubes are routed separately. The front hose or tube is routed up toward the hood (10), while the rear hose or tube is routed through a grommet and a hole (5) in the dash panel into the passenger compartment. The front hose or tube is secured to the left side of the inner hood panel reinforcement by a plastic push-in type retainer (7). Two plastic in-line fittings and a molded rubber tee (8) provide the take out for the left washer nozzle, and a plastic in-line fitting with a molded rubber elbow (9) terminate and connect the front hose or tube at the right washer nozzle.

Re: Wiper fluid spray not working

Thanks, Milous! You don't fool around, do you?

I was able to find the portion of the tube that's visible inside the engine compartment where it goes through the firewall (guess they're calling it a "dash panel" now). Unfortunately, the leak is apparently beyond that point, as there is no fluid coming out inside the engine compartment or in the passenger compartment. I tried to look under the dashboard to see if I could see the tube from that side where it goes from the firewall to the hose that goes up the pillar into the headliner, but there's so much stuff under the dashboard that you can't see the area where the tube must be.

It can't be leaking inside the passenger compartment anyway, since there is no liquid whatsoever under the dashboard or in the carpet. There must be two panels, and the leak must be between the two. The fluid comes out directly below the point where the firewall is, but there's no way to see up in there to figure out where the leak is.

I guess my only choices are to either take it to the dealer ($$$$$) or disassemble the dashboard and replace the tube from the pump to the connector with the hose that goes up the pillar.

They sure don't make it easy.
