Yiiikkess!!!

Hello all I was wondering if this is normal?, has this happened to anybody? And of course should I be worried?By the way it's the engine oil filler cap and the dipstick oil with some white residue, I tried posting the pics directly here but was having problems with the links.

that is moisture, it occurs usually when there are vast temperature swings

Re: Yiiikkess!!!

What should I do then? Leave it as is and not worry about it. I'm in NY it's pretty cold up here and I don't really drive a lot of miles.

Re: Yiiikkess!!!

i will have it inside my oil cap after a drastic temperature change, it isnt a big deal as long as it isnt occuring all of the time. i just make sure i wipe it all off. as long as it isnt happening all of the time you will be fine.

If you're getting that on your dipstick, I would change your oil and watch it coming out. Also, are you low on coolant? It could be a head gasket.

Re: Yiiikkess!!!

I wiped down the inside of the filler cap and the other end. I was so panicked earlier I failed to see that what was on the filler cap was yellow and not white and that possible was in the engine oil. Well I took it for a 20 mile drive to see if it cleared up, first pull of the dipstick there was
Still yellow gunk mixed with the oil then after wipe and reinsert everything came out clear after that.

Would that mean it was just condensation and don't need to change my oil and not have to worry about it?

Re: Yiiikkess!!!

Did you check your coolant like ekaz said? can you small any coolant on the dipstick? You could have a serious problem if it is.

Ok this is the thing, I haven't been able to tell if my coolant level been changing because Eversince it started getting cold the coolant in the resovoir is lower but then rises when it's warm. I did much research and people tell me its normal when the weather gets cold. Right now the coolant level is at the add mark and goes between the add and full mark when warm so I haven't given it much thought. I had an oil change a month and a half ago and the oil still looked good without nothing in the oil. I also had my coolant flushed and refilled about a month ago. Where can ai go from here. I smell the engine oil tomorrow from the dipstick. Also the coolant doesn't have oil in it the only thing I find weird is that sometimes when the engine is running ai see bubbles rising from the bottom of the resovoir to the top, not all the time just sometimes, it looks like it might be draining somewhere, not bubbles from heating up. Also My Jeep.hasn't showed any signs of over heating. Should I fill the coolant resovoir until full and keep an eye on it from there?

Re: Yiiikkess!!!

The bubbling of the coolant could be problematic, it could also just be coolant returning from the radiator. I believe you can buy a kit that will sample for exhaust gases in your coolant. You do have some signs of head gasket issues IMO, im sure some other guys will chime in as well.

Re: Yiiikkess!!!

Mark the coolant level when cold, drive normal, check it when it's cold again and see if it drops. Mark it where it s tomorrow morning and see where it is Wednesday morning.
