2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

Daughter called and says the turn signal arm in not returning when left blinker is on.
She has to do manually the right side works ok.
She mentioned the arm is loose so I need to check for loos screws.

Are there any directions for a 2005 JGC to replace the turn signal arm.
I would like to check it before I order one and find out I dont need.

thanks

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

I just got the new replacement stalk directional assembly.
I installed and it still wont return with a right turn. Left turn it will return.
Reason I replaced was the blinker handle was very loose like broken and thought it was the problem why it would not work.
Do you think maybe I did not install correctly meaning the steering wheel was not centered, would that cause it to still not return.
Daughter is going to come by next Friday and I will take apart again and make sure wheel is straight and reinstall.

Any suggestions and can i see in side the steering wheel with the blinker off and see if something else is broke.
Like I stated it will return on left turn but not right turn.

thanks

Did you ever manage to figure this out, i have the same problem with my 2006 WK. The right turn signal cancels fine but when i turn left it will not cancel and the left blinker will not turn off unless i hold the switch up.

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

No i did not.

I just ordered a used one from ebay from a 2005 Jeep with auto and fog lights.

I tried the one from my other daughters car and it worked so I think the after market ones are not good enough, meaning the little arm that makes contact with the inside of the steering wheel might not be long enough.

I will know in a few days when I get the OEM used one

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

I just bought a "brand new guaranteed to work" replacement from a seller on eBay. The right turn signal cancels but not the left, I have an email into the seller to see how it can be fixed....if at all. I tend to agree with you that the little arm on the switch that the tabs on the steering column engage with does not seem to be long enough.

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

I did receive the used oem and will try Sunday to install as its the only time daughter will be home.
I will post here with results.

Only other problem can be is the internal clock spring and if thats the case I will just live with the arm not returning and will have to do it manual.

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

Well I got to replace the turn signal with the used Oem and still the same problem will not return with a left turn signal.

Is there someone out there that might have any info on replacing the clock spring in the column.

I also need a part # for the clock spring for a 2005 GC limited with auto lights and fog lights.

Is this the part that needs to be replaced if a new and used signal arm will still not work?

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

I have been searching the internet about the problem I have with the turn signal not returning making a left turn.
Seems the part I need is a
Grand Cherokee Steering Column-Signal Cam cancelor part #
05143321AA. Looks like the clock spring I do not need.

My question is does anyone have any info on changing this part looks like its under the clock spring.

Can someone help if they have replaced this part.

thanks

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee turn signal problem

Post update

I also tried an oem signal arm and still the same problem. So I ordered part # 05143321AB return signal cam arm. Its located on the back side under the clock spring internal under the Steering wheel.
remove the signal and wiper control arms 2 screws each.
I removed the steering wheel air bag make sure battery cables are removed from battery.
Remove the airbag cables
Remove the Radio steering wheel cables
Remove the center bolt from the steering wheel
Mark steering wheel location so you will get back to same position
Use steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel
I then removed the steering wheel with a steering wheel puller.
I then removed 2 screws to the clock spring and was able to pull it off the steering wheel column.
on back side there are 3 tabs to snap out the return signal cam.
snap in new cam and reverse install all parts.

Works like a charm less than an hours work and the part was $1.56 plus shipping total $5.75.
Old signal return cam had 2 worn tabs that did not make contact with signal control arm to auto return off.
