2008 fog lights.

My 2008 Laredo did not come with fog lights. Ive read the how-to on installing factory fog lights into the 2008. The wiring is already there, Ive verified that. So in theory, all I have to do is mount the lights, plug them in, add a relay and a fuse in the fusebox, change the blinker switch to one that has the fog light function and then get the truck scanned by the dealer to activate it. I dont really feel like doing the last 2 things. The relay socket has 4 prongs (the relay has 5 but 1 is not used). On the load side you have constant 12v and the other goes to the hot lead for the foglights. on the relay activation side you have a constant 12v and an open circuit. Im guessing that the open side is grounded when you turn on your fog lights. The second wire at the bulb socket, it goes to ground. So, as I see it, you just need to ground that one terminal and the fog lights go on. This ground is probably what the pcm controls by figuring out if youve got the right switch, or if the high beams are on or off, or if the ign is on or off. I could supply my own ground to this terminal via a separate switch to manually operate them. But I dont know if I would have to remove the terminal from the socket first as I dont know if it would hurt the pcm to ground it while still attached to its wiring. Ive seen the pics of relays with the folded over terminal. I could do that and attach my ground signal to the folded over terminal. This way the relay would still plug in but not make contact with the pcm wiring. Sounds complicated, I know but its really simple. I will update when my lights arrive later this week.

Re: 2008 fog lights.

Well, I came across a foglight equipped multifunction switch for fairly cheap so I guess Im going to get it flashed by the dealer. Ill have to shop around. Does anyone have the list of the commands needed to input with the starscan tool?
