Adding Homelink to 08 wk

My wk didnt come with home link but really wish I had it since I was spoiled with my 02 limited.

Do I just need the new overhead console or would their be wiring involved or antennas and such?

Any accurate insight is appreciated.

Re: Adding Homelink to 08 wk

Not sure what's involved in adding HomeLink but I would assume it will cost an arm and a leg. I thought this would be a much cheaper alternative. I velcroed mine on the overhead. I assume, of course that you have a compatible garage door opener (Liftmaster, Chamberlain, Sears Craftsman, etc.)

I believe Laredo = no Homelink.

I'm sure it was removed as standard equipment at a certain point. That was during the DaimlerChrysler cost cutting period. My 08 Laredo does not have it, my 2011 WK2 Laredo does not have it either.

Sorry for the old thread bump, but I found this in a search. I also have an '08 Laredo without homelink, I'd love to add it (since I've it in previous cars as well).

Just wanted to see if you ever swapped it in? I was hoping the harness matched and it was a quick overhead console swap.

Thanks!

Re: Adding Homelink to 08 wk

I added it to our '06. Bought a used unit off ebay (anything from a LX will work, they have the same overhead console) and it plugged right in to an existing connector up there. you don't necessarily have to buy one without the sunroof switch- the unit is modular, so you can use your old console, remove the plastic cover from behind, and screw the homelink module in. I did that because the ebay console was in worse shape than my old one.

it was like $40 if I remember right. it shows on the gauge cluster when you push the buttons. priceless.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info, very helpful.

I didn't even think of the console being modular. Mine is in mint condition, so I will just swap in the homelink buttons/module as well. I just ordered one now!
