Re: Center Dash lights

Some of HVAC bulbs blown as well. I will soon replace them. But electronic shops locally sell by voltage and size (not type). I can only find 12V miniature bulbs in two dimensions either 4x9mm or 3x8mm. Anyone knows which size is the right one for the HVAC unit ? Thanks !

The oem HVAC miniature bulbs are 5mm but the smaller size have the same lighting power as well.

Re: Center Dash lights

The correct OEM replacement lamps are made offshore.

I have had contact with the distributor, for several years, through my occupation. I've contacted said distributor for the OEM lamps, with the plastic base, and they have indicated to me, that the lamps are proprietary to Chrysler's build partners and will not be sold, aftermarket.

In lieu of this, the lamps you will need should be 14VDC/115mA, not 12VDC.

If you install the 12 volt lamps, you may get a more bluish tint. They get the greener tint by underrating the bulb, so it burns more of a yellowish tint. That, coupled with the blue bulb cover, will emit the proper greenish tint.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Re: Center Dash lights

Thanks - it helps a lot. I dont know if those i installed are 12 or 14 v. I told the shop i need them for the dash and they gave me. Maybe the colour difference is very small so i do not notice. How do i know if its 12 or 14 v?

If i have changed the oem to 12 v do i run the risk in burning the blue rubber cap due to overheating ??

Re: Center Dash lights

12, or 14 doesn't matter, for heat. The amp rating does.

Just go with what you have. I have the rubber condoms for the lights, in stock. If you burn them out, let me know

Re: Center Dash lights

After a little more info as I am in the UK. A little far to be sending my centre section to be repaired!!
has anyone got a photo/ tech info of the correct type of lamp to use to replace the blown lamps in my switches.
Also are the lamps in the heated seat switches replaceable/ same type?

the bulbs in the switches (whether upper or lower switch bank) are bit smaller (i think 3 mm) than the HVAC 5mm incandescent bulbs. You need two pin 14VDC/115mA incandescent bulbs. I found it a bit hard to find the right ones in greece. Diboblo in this forum mentioned that the correct OEM replacement bulbs are made offshore.

Nevertheless, it's not that difficult to replace. Remove the centre console (it pops out) , unplug the wiring, unscrew the 4 screws on the back side holding in place the switch cover and here you go.

You might as well take a look at the link below for soldering instructions - also useful in case you want to replace the normal bulbs with leds etc etc (thinking of doing it some time in the future)

hope it helps....

WOW... I wouldn't follow one word of advice, in that link. How sad.

Those are the types of DIY jobs I fix, all the time...
