Collision upgrades

So, short of the story, I hit a deer tonight and messed up the whole right side and most of the center front end of my 05 wk. I was wondering if anyone has gotten an 08 front end put on with insurance covering it after an accident like this. I'm just thinkin HID's and maybe the mesh Overland grille. Need some opinions and personal expercince. Thanks guys!!!

If your insurance company is gonna cut you a check for the value of the damage then you can do whatever you want, but if you get into the headlights they are extremely expensive.

Yes, a few members have. It is definitely worth it and you can do it for a good price too!

Re: Collision upgrades

Yes, exactly like that. My whole right side, including the grille has been destroyed. So I might just have to buy the driver side headlight?

After:

I wanted projectors, but needed tires + lift more. I took the insurance check & bought all the parts myself. Totally worth it. Plus it sets mine apart from the two other identical WK's in town driven by old ladies.

Re: Collision upgrades

Yeah, I know the bumper and lights are different on the 08+. I was just guessing that I would have to buy the driver headlight out of pocket and the rest would be covered by insurance.

Re: Collision upgrades

If you find a body shop that will work with you & has an idea of what you're doing, you can pull it off. Just remember that most body shops aren't Jeep geeks like us, so you need to make sure the parts are correct. The insurance company will determine the repair amount and cut a check to a body shop, minus the deductible. After the body shop gets the check, anything goes until the money is gone. If the shop is cool, they might even pay for the extra light just for giving them the biz.

Re: Collision upgrades

Let me give you the perspective as one of those "cool" body shop owners. It wouldn't matter to me if a person wanted to go from an early front end to the newer style lamps and bumper, if it cost the same, who cares. Where I would have the problem is someone thinking they would come to the shop with their own parts in hand. In general people seem to think body shops are making a killing doing Insurance work. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In most areas of the country shop labor rates are in the $45 per hour range, while a mechanical repair shop rate ( in my area) is $95 per hour. I cannot afford to lose whatever little markup I make on parts, so I don't allow customers to buy their own parts. Its like buying a steak at Shop Rite cause its on sale then heading down to your local steak house and just asking them to grille it for you. That being said, every shop owner is different. Some know their cost of doing business and some, well don't. My advice would be if you want to buy your own parts, I would first approach a shop where you would want to have the truck repaired at to see if thats cool with them. If you buy the parts first then can't find a shop to work with, your stuck. Just my .02 worth of advice.
