De-chromeing?

I'm thinking about removing the chrome trim on my white wk. Anybody done this around here that can offer advice and/or pictures? I'm not sure what it looks like under those pieces. The chrome along the bottom of the windows seems most suspect to me. I had no moldings on my old Tahoe and it looked good, but I haven't seen a wk without them.

Re: De-chromeing?

I have the black rubber ones and eventually they fade to a geyish color overtime. Even armourall really doesen work well on mine. I wonder how you would remove them...

Re: De-chromeing?

that trim under the windows can be painted ,a lot of people do that .also the molding in the doors and rear bumper can be painted .tons of us have done that ,however if you remove it there are holes in the door and indentations where the trim fits. I've seen 2 jeeps that have had them smoothed, but that's not a do it yourself job.

Re: De-chromeing?

Damn. I was hoping the door molding would be stuck on with 3m tape.

Re: De-chromeing?

Take them off and have them painted? I was hoping for a quick cheap mod.

Re: De-chromeing?

thats probably the cheapest mod you can do other than a de badge. All you do is (carefully) pull the trim off the sand them prime them paint them... you dont even need to prime it but if you like things done rite then its a good idea. sand paper-$4, can of primer spray paint- $4 spray paint-$4.... WORTH IT. paint and sand pper might even be cheaper by you!

Re: De-chromeing?

I purchased the thin laredo moldings and had them painted. I also have the painted door handles to match. Removing the thick laredo moldings was no big deal and had no issues with installing the thin ones after. No dents, chips, scratches at all.

It was by far one of my easiest mods and one of the most visually appealing.

I UR50SLO paint the moldings and he did an amazing job for under $100.00.

Thanks! The headlight covers were purchased from Black Ops and painted by a local painter that did an awesome job. Again, the little visual mods ususally make the biggest differece.
