Just wondering what you used to buff it out? I'm planning to get a porter cable and a compliment of pads and products but it will probably be a little while yet.

Did you hand buff? I have the same ghosting affect from debadging.

Re: Debadge Help

go to home depot. I got mine for 25 bucks and came with pads. i used that to apply and remove the buffing solution. I held the buffer over that spot for 30 seconds or so and then buffed and i cant see it anymore.

Re: Debadge Help

please let us all know how your removing of the ghost letters comes out... i am planning on debadging my "4x4" and "laredo" in the next weekend and I'd like to know if i will need anything else...
I will use a blowdryer and fishing line... and i have a microfiber cloth with goo gone and turtlewax's bug and tar remover on hand. hopefully those 2 do the trick for me.

Re: Debadge Help

yes. Home depot bought it a few weeks ago. It came with 3 pads. 1 for application, 1 for removal and shinning. It was a great deal it was the 6 inch model. They had a 10 inch model for 30 but it would be harder to get in all the intricate places on the WK.

Re: Debadge Help

BTW i didnt have any fishing line so i cut open an old telephone line and used the smaller cables inside to remove them. As long as you heat it up they are very easy to pull off.

I doubt you'll need all that. I just used some turtle wax polishing compound and a micofiber cloth, and was able to rub the ghosting off within a few seconds.

Re: Debadge Help

My ghosting was pretty substantial since the badges have been on the car for almost 8 years.

Re: Debadge Help

I think the important thing here to realize is where the badges were they have not been exposed to the elements the rest of the vehicle has been under. It also was not exposed to a wax and polish over the years either. So a buff and polish is probably necessary and the next time you wax the vehicle it will be looking great. I don't think it is residue, but it certainly would not hurt to run a clay bar over it if you can.
