Door Molding Swap

I am looking to swap out the black door molding on my 05 Laredo for chrome (posted in Wanted if anyone is looking to sell) and was curious how hard it was. I poked around and didnt see much in the forum. Is it just a matter of prying off the old and pushing the new in, or is there tape/glue as well? Also, I looked in the fastner sticky above and didnt see replacement fastners for the door moldings.....thanks!

Re: Door Molding Swap

They are held on by 6-7 clips. You can just get a flathead in there and pry it off.

Re: Door Molding Swap

I have a HOW TO on this, but its really easy I just removed my front strips since I have to get my front doors blended.

I would just take your interior door covers off and pop the clips out by reaching into the door, takes about 15 minutes each side

Or just pull them off as that is what the guys with the large lower moldings have told me they did.

Re: Door Molding Swap

Hello all, this is my first post in this forum - i have been a Jeepforum guy with my ZJ and WJ and now I have the WK and like the feel of this forum more for some of my improvements (98 % Street Jeep) - I am bumping this thread beacause I wish to remove the thick black door mouldings from mine and replace with the Limited chrome. I have reviewed WKjeeps.com. . That being said - What is the absolute right answer regarding this swap , and where to buy ? Thanks !!

Thanks for that, I'm sure the jeep dealership has these .. I'm looking for alternative suppliers and actual hands on info regarding questions Primarily Is it clips or no clips ? I'm hoping it is a case of beer and a hair dryer.

This a 2005 Laredo with the wide trim - I want the limited chrome, but concerned that if the Laredo has clips they will not be covered by the Chrome trim.

i have an 06 laredo and i removed my wide moldings and replaced them with overland platinum moldings. i went to my local jeep dealer and bought them, came home and removed the moldings and the glue. only the top part has clips and the bottom has glue. they used the same doors for laredos and limiteds so all the holes line up.

they used to look like this........

and now they look like this.........

how is that for hands on info? LOL
