Factory Towing Package Install?

I have my '10 GC Limited and it came without the towing package so I have a regular bumper on the back without the cutout for the hitch. I'm looking into installing a Factory MOPAR hitch receiver and wiring harness. However, I don't want a drop down hitch that sticks out below my bumper, I want one that would go with the bumper that includes the cutout. My question is, would I need to order a whole new bumper to install the factory hitch? Or could I cut the bumper? And if I can cut it, where could I find the dimensions to cut so the hitch will fit?

Re: Factory Towing Package Install?

The OEM hitch should include the template for cutting out your bumper, as well as the trim to go around the hole to clean things up.

No new bumper necessary!

Re: Factory Towing Package Install?

Recently did this myself, I got the factory hitch, when you remove the bumper on the inside there will be dashed lines for the cutout, I outlined them with blue tape so I could see better and I cut it out with a jig saw, just make sure you torque the bolts to the right setting and you'll need the bezel to cover the cutout as we'll, either get the mopar wiring kit or I bought a kit from u haul a 4 pin but I bout a 4 pin to 7/4 pin connector and rigged that up so it's factory, plus I didn't have to pay at the dealer to get it activated like the mopar one. Good luck😊

Would you be able to elaborate a bit more about the wiring harness? I wasnt aware that you had to have the truck programmed just for trailer lights. also how was cutting the bumper? Pretty straight forward? i was looking for a video online but couldnt seem to fine one. Thanks!

I bought the original mopar kit with bezel and wiring harness and just let the dealer install it. Worth the extra money to me to have it done right without question. And if they screw something up, it's on them not you

Hey bo,

Wondering how much that process cost you. I'm looking into doing that myself and have no idea what to expect.

Thanks

Re: Factory Towing Package Install?

I don't remember now it's been so long. I think I payed em 200 bucks or so to install everything. You have to take it to a dealer anyway so they can program the wiring kit. Ridiculous if you ask me but that's the way it works. I remember the installation instructions that came with the tow package looked a little too complicated for me to wanna tackle. The actual kit itself with hitch, wiring harness, and bezel I think was around 150

Re: Factory Towing Package Install?

Forgive me, I lied.
The tow package and bezel I ordered off amazon, they totaled 195.
Wiring harness I must have ordered from mopar. Don't remember the cost

Still, either way I think it's worth letting a dealer do it.

Question Re: Factory Towing Package Install?

if you put an aftermarket inline wiring harness for the trailer plug would you need to have the dealer activate it? what do the lights do if you dont have it activated?
