2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee gas cap light came on and then the check engine light came on.
I reset it about 3 times with the battery and bot still came on.
I ordered a new gas cap and installed it and the check engine light went out but the check gas cap light is on.
Is there a way to reset the gas cap light other than the battery. I thought I read some where there is but could not find the info.
This morning I did the battery cable again and gas cap light is out for now.
Just wanted to know if there was another way to reset it on the dash.
2005 JGC limited loaded with 114k miles 4.7 engine
The fault is self-resetting, so after a sufficient number of drive cycles without the fault occurring, it will reset itself. If you don't want to wait, pulling the cable or clearing the code with a reader are your options.
Daughter text me this morning on her way to work check engine light came on so gotta read the code again.
I checked under the engine there is a sensor with 2 vac lines with elbows and they seem fine.
I also checked under the driver rear tire for the evap canister and those lines seem fine.
I do not have a smoke machine, so what would be a good way to check the lines? I do have a air compressor, is there a way to pump air into the lines and listen for a leak, if so where would be a good place to start. I dont want to make things worse.
This morning I went out to car no CEL but I did a smoke test on the front evap sensor/module where there is a molded rubber elbow with 2 hard lines going to where ever!! I did the air and smoke test on these 2 lines and nothing and both held pressure.
I took off the rear wheel and wheel well. I pressurized and smoked the lines there and still nothing. Also looked up at the gas tank for smoke still nothing.
Is there a way to check both evap sensors the one under the engine and the one connected to the canister in the rear.
The hoses on the car I cant believe how they look under the engine compartment. Everything looks brand new no drying, cracks and loose connections. Engine components looks like it just came from the factory even the hard line vac lines look brand new. I know the car was detailed when I bought in July and all was good until 2 weeks ago when the check gas cap and the codes p0455 and p0457. I cleared the p0457 4 days ago and now the p0455 code. CEL with p0455 2 days ago so I reset and made sure the new cap is on good and tight.
I made my own smoke machine.
Need a 1 gallon paint can
1 barb air fitting to fit 3/8 line
1 quick disconnect for my compressor.
put both connectors in cover. Then seal with JB weld or silicone rtv then let dry
added some styro foam in bottom of can
added 6 incense sticks or the incense pills
light them and put cover on
add air line to in and then out to the line you want to check.
Worked great for me with the air pressure being about 1psi
incense will last about 1 hr if ya need more just add and good to go.
You can also add a pressure gauge to check if pressure is holding.
So is there a way to check both evap sensors and would a bad evap canister cause this large leak code p0455.
