Re: HIDs

Mhchockey84 - I would be more than happy to help you with any HID kit questions you have. Your 2005 Grand Cherokee uses 9006 bulbs for the low beams meaning you need a 9006 HID kit. Do you have any questions about selecting color temperature?

Re: HIDs

Hello Xenon Depot I am also interested in upgrading my lights to HIDs, I just finished upgrading my interiors to leds. Thanks for the discount code by the way. I am curious to what the differences are on the the three hid kits that are available for the low beams in a 2005 Jeep WK? Would also like to have matching fog lights.

Re: HIDs

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

There are 3 main differences between the Volt HID kit and Xtreme HID kit.

1) The Xtreme HID kit will come with a relay harness that will power the ballasts directly from the battery whereas the Volt kit relies on the OEM headlight wiring to power the ballasts. The Xtreme harness will ensure that the ballasts always receive a constant 12V as power is being drawn directly from the battery. Jeepgarage members do get a relay harness with the Volt HID kit when you use the "JG" coupon code though.

2) The Xtreme ballasts will be superior to the Volt ballasts as they use a German processing chip that allows the ballasts to monitor the bulb power requirements on a real time basis. This will extend both bulb and ballast life. Xtreme ballasts also have a lower starting draw and a higher efficiency rating.

3) The Xtreme kit comes with a 3 year warranty whereas the Volt kit comes with a 2 year warranty.

The Xtreme HID Kit is available with a "Philips bulb" option. This kit will come with genuine German made Philips capsules. These are the same bulbs that are used in OEM HID applications.

You would need to get a 9006 Hid kit to upgrade your vehicle's low beams and an H10 HID kit to upgrade your vehicle's fog lights.

Hope this helps,

Steve

They can't be the exact same bulbs since Phillips doesn't make aftermarket style hid kit bulbs. They can be rebased D2S etc but there is no such thing as a Phillips 9006 bulb.

If you really want hid you should look into an '08 headlight swap for retro with something easy like the Mini H1 projectors. Nothing worse than hids in a suv reflector housing that wasn't designed for it.

Re: HIDs

Philips does not sell rebased bulbs however it is definitely possible to purchase original German made Philips bulbs that have been rebased into a 9006 application. The rebasing process was not done by Philips however the bulb itself is still a Philips bulb.

Re: HIDs

Hi,

This is what I got. It worked great even though the instructions are a bit lame.
Having said that, you need a relay harness for this or any other after market HID kit to work in your stock lamps.
Without the relay the lights just don't always come on or flicker.
This is the kit I got:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/110549943213...ht_6227wt_1296

Also, I went with the 5000K color temp since it was closer to OEM. I hear 4300K is even less blue-looking.

If you're after a relay harness this is what I got:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180899716210...84.m1439.l2649

Any questions, just ask. If you need help with how to wire it and where the grounds go or how I mounted mine, I can help you, just ask.

Good luck!

OEM lights are 4100-4300k. They only seem blue because they color shift over time and the projector cut-off also gives it a bluish/purplish color. Anything over 4300k is a reduction in light output. 5000k is a good compromise for color when using reflectors though.

Re: HIDs

You're right. 4300K is pretty much white light.
