Re: Interior/Exterior rivets, clips and push pins

While I was swapping in a set of new headlamps, I lost one of the plastic nuts that snap into the body and accept the screws that hold in the headlamps

Found them on clipsandfasteners, thought I would post in case anyone ever needed them:

Re: Interior/Exterior rivets, clips and push pins

OK, so I'm slowly trying to get the hang of these plastic rivets and pins, but I'm definitely doing it wrong out of the gate. Either I lack the combined finess and strength required for both removal and install, or these little buggers are just a PITA.

It's hugely helpful to have the notched pry bar doohickey shown in the photos above for removal, but it still seems to take either knowledge or feel of trim pieces to know best install and removal methods. Haven't damaged anything yet, but knuckles are bleeding and burning calories with trial and error.

So does anyone have any Kung Fu secret tips for these? Thanks in advance. I've seen below thread as well.

Thanks to Rob, here are the links...

grill 2 piece pins. also taillights on 07+ use same thing.
http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Pus...pas1860-25.htm

Fender Well rivets, these also used on mopar body kit for rockers
http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/1_4...p_p/a13750.htm

inner fenders use 1-2 of these. so does the front bumper, behind the grill
http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Mud...pas5675-50.htm

door panel pins 8 front - 6 rear

liftgate interior trim push-pins (not pictured)

EDIT

Pics of the products...the new push-pins for the grill are so nice! It was about $25 for all four of these packages shipped

so the 2nd link is for the plastic rivets and is this the proper rivet gun then?

you are speaking of the blind nylon rivets...so that is the gun needed

If you were doing this a lot then spending money for the gun would be worthwhile. But if you're only talking about doing this job once or twice you can install the rivets without the gun.

You need something to hold the collar of the rivet flush to the surface. Then you need to pull the shaft of the rivet until it's tight. The shaft pulls the back of the rivet tight against the back of the material. Once you have it pulled tight you can break off the shaft of the rivet.

I took care of installing mine by using a box-end wrench to hold the collar of the rivet flush. Then I pulled the shaft using a pair of vise-grips. Worked great and saved me from having to buy a tool I'd likely never use again.

These plastic rivets don't require anywhere near the same pulling force as metal rivets. For metal rivets you definitely want to the the proper style of tool.
