i have two tone black and grey seats and, someone correct me if im wrong, but as far as my jeep goes (Laredo X/North Edition) i believe the black leather is real and the grey is not.the black definitely has a different texture than the grey. but mine is also a laredo, limited might be different.

im pretty sure they were using vinyl for the leather seats, based on the feel and quality of them, not positive though but real leather feels are more rough and not as slippery as the seats jeep was using. It also has pores and needs different care than vinyl. i installed real leather seats from katzin and the feel of the seats is completely differnt to the oem leather. the katzin is rougher and feels nicer to touch, i compared it to the leather used in my parents commander theirs is the oem leather and its definitely not real leather.

i love the katzin they are great, quality of the leather is equivalent to the premium leather in my dads beemer. its one of my favorite things that ive bought. i got them through installers that were in my area, but im almost positive that you can buy the kit from katzins website and probably even install them yourself if i were to do it again i would install them myself.
heres a thread where i took some pics of them, on the second page theres a hole bunch http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=19818

thats weird. i was thinking the perforated inserts in mine were the fake part. they seem a lot harder or more plastic like. when i throw leather conditioner on there the perforated part doesnt really change but the black gets shiny, and the more i sit on them, the more the black starts to shine whereas the grey just stays dull. i dont know though, you guys could easily be right. they might changed from then till now too.

The seats on mine are grey on grey, but the outer (non-perforated) part is definitely vinyl as it has cracked and I can tell. To me it feels more plasticy than the perforated part. I'll take a pic tonight.

EDIT: I see you have a WK2. They very well may have changed the design.

I have an 07 Larado X and my seats are real leather. I saw one with the vinyl, and the diffrance that I noticed was that my Seats have the JEEP logo embroydered in the seat back and the vinyle ones look like they are glued together at the seams not stitched like the leather.

My seats also have JEEP embroidered on the back of them and I have a Laredo. My seats don't feel like real leather. I wish they were :slapfight:

The swicharoo from all leather to vinyl side bolsters is, by far, my biggest complaint about this Jeep. Mine are cracking as well and they're not covered under warranty (well, maybe the 3/36). My frustration is because the cracks appeared right after the 3 year mark.

I had my driver's seat replaced last year. The center panels on the bottom and back are leather and the rest is vinyl. I called Jeep's complaint center since I had a severely cracked seat with less than 30K on the clock. After a set of pictures from the dealer they finally did have the dealer replace the seat cover.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and just had my Drivers Side Seat repaired. When a Manufacturer [any of them] sells us leather "trimmed" seats...that is what they mean...they are leather seats "bottoms/back" trimmed in Vinyl Fronts/Sides.Backs...

If you want TOTAL control over what you buy and what you are getting in leather seating, MOPAR is in partnership with Katzkin Automotive Leather and Katzkin is the "cat's Meow" in leather seating...
