Re: My new tints!

I did 20 on my front doors and it matched the rest really well. My tint guy has a meter and the rear windows metered at like 22 or 23

Re: My new tints!

I just had a friend repaint mine with clear mixed with some black paint. Professionally

VHT doesn't even compare.

VHT is great if you do it right. most people just slap it on though unfortunately. all VHT is is pre-mixed black and gloss.

Re: My new tints!

I can honestly say I did it right the first time. The finish is kind of good, but almost has a flat feeling. Maybe if you added a gloss... maybe....

No real comparison to automotive clear with black. The gloss is so much better.

Re: My new tints!

I did mine with 50 on the windshield and what the tint shop said was closer to an 18 on just the front doors. It matches great, but on sunny days you can see right in. I think it looks as close to factory as it's going to get and keeps the cops from wanting to check it.
I miss my 5 all around TL for privacy, but I really like being able to see clearly at night too (especially when towing).

oh I did add a gloss. I'm pretty sure the VHT can tells you to do so haha.

but yeah. sand, VHT layers, gloss layers, sand, compound, wax, buff till your arm falls off, and boom, they come out looking like glass.

to be fair, my friend was overseeing me while I did so, but since he works as a car painter and I'm an art student, we might have an unfair advantage
