Re: Opinions on Lights behind grille

I hadn't seen this thread prior to doing my mods, but here's what mine looks like:

I used a pair of PIAA 004XT XTREME WHITE Lamps and have been pleased with the results.

We just got our second decent snowfall here in North Tahoe and the lights worked just as expected during the storm. I turned off the main lights to avoid the "hyper-speed" effect from the reflection of the snowflakes and was able to see more clearly than ever.

I'm very pleased!

I thought about fabbing something up, but found a couple floor joist hangers left over from a remodel and cut them to work. They were for 2x6 beams, and I just trimmed the face mount tabs and made a crude metal brake from 1" wide steel stock and a pair of vise grips to get consistent and true bends.

I disconnected the battery to keep an inadvertent airbag mistake from happening, measured the brackets and drilled some holes in the frame; painted the brackets with rustoleum satin black, mounted the lights and wired everything up.

Here are the pics:
Drivers side

Passenger side (note trimmed area to clear sensor)

Here's a pic with all lights on. I'll do some night shots if I can get the exposure right on my cheap camera.

(BTW, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Stay safe and make it back to your WK soon!)

Re: Opinions on Lights behind grille

Outstanding! I like them both Can't wait till the night pics Say, if you are running an HID set-up, are they fairly "instant-on", or is there a big warm up time? My idea is to have this set-up on a three pole switch, where I can just turn them on by themselves, or have them "armed" so they come on and off with the high beams. Also, thank you for the kind words about my service, it helps tremendously dealing with things over here knowing you have support from your fellow Americans Thanks again

Re: Opinions on Lights behind grille

The warmup time is about 10 seconds, but it is totally worth it. I have them wired to a 9005 relay and I cut the regular trigger wire and spliced that into some 16 awg cable and ran that through the firewall. I have a switch on the interior wired to the switched fuse box so the lights will only work when the key is on. The hid kit was only 25 bucks on eBay so well worth it!
