Painted Mirror/Covers

I bought the Putco brand mirror covers in chrome and need to get them painted but I was thinking and is it possible to just paint over the primed mirror has anyone done this?

The Putco ones seem to be almost 100% direct fit but there's a little gap in between that looks tacky.

Please let me know any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Painted Mirror/Covers

You can paint anything with proper prep work and patience.

I would sand the original cover to remove any sealants and contaminants, prime, adhesion promoter, paint, wet sand, paint, wet sand (etc), Clear, Wet sand Clear, Wet sand (etc)

The key to proper painting is taking your time, doing your prep work thuroughly and patience.

Re: Painted Mirror/Covers

get a vendor to paint them (from the forum). the cost of primer, adhesion promoter, sand paper, base and clear coat is around $60 from automotivetouchup and its a real bitch of a time to get it even, no runs etc. I can't imagine they'd charge more than $50-75 for a pro job.
