I will give you all the credit in the world for doing this....however, personally I think it looks like you put on a junkyard hood and haven't had it painted. But I'm old so don't read much into what I think....lol

Re: Plastidipped Hood / Roof pics..

haha this is totally how i felt. It was fun to try with a buddy and some beers. It'll come off before the GF is back in town but worth a shot - afterall it cost $29 dollars worth of plastidip!

Thanks for the opinions - sometimes it's tough after you put time into something and you just want it to look good, you can convince yourself otherwise! that being said, maybe I should just do the whole thing black since the hard parts are already done...

Re: Plastidipped Hood / Roof pics..

dam, that's ballsy. Like the roof idea but the hood is a bit much for me.

Since you're experimenting....why not do the whole car? first ever matte black WK dipped!!!???

Re: Plastidipped Hood / Roof pics..

what the hell, I'm just getting my feet wet (dipped?) in the modding world. Have a startech wheel coming, sway bars and a TB from ryan on the way so right now I'm just trying not to break the bank and everything I've heard about plastidip is true. Its addicting. As for the fit and finish the roof came out awesome, probably cause its flat, A+. The hood I'd say at B+, these pics are still wet, it dries alot smoother. I'll get some more pics when I have time.

Plastidipping the rest would only take a few more hours and might just be fun for kicks. My buddy helping was pretty intoxicated and blacked out the roof of his G35 and it looks sick. Sometimes you just need to take a chance right? Plus, a full wrap or repaint is just too expensive for me so I'll stick with getting lucky. Keep the opinions coming, I think the verdict is to at least remove the hood coat or just go for a full dip.

Can anyone think of anything i should be careful of or downsides to doing the full thing? I've seen an s4 online and a bimmer done but nothing else

Somewhere between 4-5, hard to tell exactly cause like I said, my buddy got a little spontaneous and starting doing his G35 roof too.

I'd say about 3 coats on the hood and 2 thick ones on the roof. These pics are still with the hood wet, it drys much more solid.

I can't really think of anything I should be 'careful' about when doing the whole car other than maybe the handles which would be tough to get behind, plus I know the oils on your hands will make the plastidip wear off sooner

Re: Plastidipped Hood / Roof pics..

stuff comes off simple, as long as you put enough on there. but it's easy to tell with your color truck. on the black, if you miss a spot, those little dots are an absolute pain.

Re: Plastidipped Hood / Roof pics..

yeah for anyone wondering, a little goo gone does wonders. One paper towel with that (not to wet) and another wet towel and you'll take it all off. Overspray with plastidip is a b*tch...my windows felt like sandpaper afterwords
