Possible new recovery point on WK?

Hi guys,

After owning my WK for a year and a half I finally got the mod bug and will hopefully have a good looking rig soon. My WK did not come with an "official" rear recovery point. Here is what I got in mind: take a 1/2" or 3/4" metal drill (depending on the size you guys recommend) and drill all the way through through the existing hole in the "rear sliders" and have a shackle hang off of it. 4xG uses the slider to secure their own sliders on to, so I thought this might work. Here are some pictures:

Let me know what you guys think. This seems like a great budget alternative to pretty much everything on the market. Let me know what you all think. I am very new to this, but hopefully can become more experience through interacting with you all. Thanks

Re: Possible new recovery point on WK?

only problem i can think of is if you're buried deep enough to need to use a recovery point those may not be accessable.

Re: Possible new recovery point on WK?

A taut strap/rope might rub on the bumper.

Re: Possible new recovery point on WK?

What I wanted to do was attach the recovery strap to it before going off road and then shutting the other end of it under the lift gate. This way if needed, all I will need to do is pop the gate.

You are right. I just checked and the strap would hit the end of the rail and get pinched. Would be a bad idea to wrap a shirt around that area to keep the strap from coming in contact with rough metal?

Re: Possible new recovery point on WK?

I have a metal hook in that same spot, it sticks out a little farther then tHe bumper and works great... Pulled a few people out with it. I got the hook rated at 10000 lbs at autozone.

That is excellent information. I have never thought about putting a hook on there. I will definitely have to check that out. Thanks.

and since the hook uses two bolt's it won't pivot and damage the bumper like the shackle would.

Re: Possible new recovery point on WK?

Thanks to the original poster...I've been looking for a cheap solution and happened upon this. I recently installed two of the Reese 10,000lb tow hooks on both sliders. I haven't used them yet but hope that they hold up.
