Re: Project Ground Pounder SRT Wide-Body Clone

Hello My fellow Friends ! Thank You for those Awesome comments! u dont know how much i am glad and happy that u like hows the jeep turning out

The project is currently on hold for a short while , Maybe after X-mass it will resume... that is if some awaited parts have reached by that time as stated...

- Mesh grill from italy..
- Some Relays from Italy also for the HID conversion, and Flashtech's.
- Flashtech Led Halo's highs and fogs
- Brackets for the front SRT8 sways install ....
- 3M sound dampning pads ( the jeep will all be sound deadned from the inside.. ( side doors, rear door, pillars, and roof )

I am currently working on my other cars... some maintenance and detailing.. u know.. to keep them stay fresh and clean

Meanwhile, i am googling some companies that fabricate a bracket that allow me to run 3 additional alternators under the hood? any of you guys know companies like that out there?

I've found this soo far... http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3D20%26um%3D1

^^^ i dont know why i am not feeling trust for that site :O

Hamze, I think you should read this before committing to a multiple alternator setup... http://www.zena.net/htdocs/alternators/AutoSound.shtml

I know next to nothing about auto sound, except how to make everything look good, but in searching for a different reason, I found that site.

Like I said, I'm not a stereo guy, but my general engineering knowledge tells me you'd be better of with a larger battery, single higher-discharge alternator, and maybe a capacitor or 2, but maybe not. I found this on capacitors: http://www.caraudiohelp.com/newslett...citor_myth.htm

Make sure you read the whole article. Tons of useful information.

Re: Project Ground Pounder SRT Wide-Body Clone

Will a Power Capacitor Help You?

I don't know, it depends. How's that for an answer? The degree of help a power capacitor will give you depends on your specific vehicle, car audio amplifier(s) current draw, music type and listening habits.
1. If the electrical system has a lot of additional reserve capacity (large alternator and battery) then you will benefit less then one that has a marginally acceptable charging system.
2. If you have large amplifiers with large current draw capability then you are more likely to need a car audio power capacitor. Smaller systems may not benefit at all or at least not enough to justify the cost.
3. If you listen to AM talk radio then you probably aren't going to have large transient peaks in your program material. But if you listen to bass heavy music then you are more likely to benefit from a power cap. This is especially true of classical music which has very large peaks and dynamic range.
4. You can have the biggest amps in the world but if you don't crank it up then you're not going to ever reach the large current draws those amps can require. Of course I don't really know anyone who buys big amps to let them idle. So if your system is being asked to reach loud volume levels a power capacitor can be a good supplement.
How Do You Know if You Need a Power Capacitor?

The first way most people know if their system is in trouble is headlights dimming. To most car audio enthusiasts with a passing knowledge of electrical systems this means a capacitor is needed. Headlights dimming? Get a cap. And that's a pretty good guess but not always true and certainly not a guaranteed cure. A power capacitor can only do so much. If your electrical system only has a scrape it's a good band-aid but if it's really bleeding you need stitches. And stitches come in the form of an upgraded alternator and battery. If the headlight dimming only occurs at idle then it probably isn't much to worry about and a power capacitor may help. An idling vehicle puts out much less current from the alternator while the current draw from the audio system remains the same.

OK. Attention sound guys! Agree or disagree?

Make sure you read the whole article. Tons of useful information.

I am still not sure on how to wire my system yet. i still need lots, i mean LOTS of reasearch! i am confuzed bcz i am not finding any stable and official info to work on.. every site states something that contradicts the other....

i have a 2000 Watts Rms amplifier, where on its user manual,it is stated that it draws a Maximum of 55 Amperes at full capacity, where if i do my calculations based on info on all audio sites, it states that it should draw more than 150 amperes! :S! thats cofusing..

(*) I am planing to run 2 subwoofers ( 1000 RMS each ) to 1 Amplifier ( 2000 RMS ) , each Amp will be fed by its own alternator ( which i am still figuring out how much its output should be in Amperes..to feed a 2000 Rms system) + a 1 Yellow top Optima battery 75 Amperes... i am still short of research...

my system will consist of 6000 RMS in total. 3 ( 2000 RMS amps ) + 6 ( 1000 Rms Subs )

Alternators, optimas, and wiring are still under research .. its a big build as to my humble experience.... lots of research should be done..

the highest watts Rms system i've ever build was on One of the C5's i owned 9 yrs ago .. it was 1600 Rms from 6 RF subs and 2 800a2 RF Amps! lol peice of cake...

I'd start here.

Also, stay far away from capacitors.

Thanks for chiming in here, Matt. I was pretty sure you knew better than I what he would need. I think 3 alternators is a bit excessive. Maybe a split system? I would use the deep cycle marine batteries to power the amps with their own dedicated alternator suggestion from the 1st link I posted^^^

Yeah, high-powered systems are not my specialty, but I have come across some relevant threads pertaining to them over my years.

If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say dual-alt setup would be best. Honestly though, your best best is to do your research and figure out what it the correct way to beef up your electrical system. Seems like you already know that, so, carry on
