Any body know of people who have done this? Or can suggest what hids and projectors to use?

Re: retro fit head lights

I'm having my housings painted black with halos and HID's installed but I'm not using projector lenses or Oracle rings. They look good but my body shop will only use their rings. I know other people on JG have done it. Looks really good when it's all done.

Re: retro fit head lights

I did a retro-fit. I just did the low beams with the oldv3 projectors. These things had a serious cut-off.... it was really sharp and looked good. If I did it again, I'd use the moromito minis. the whole kit comes with shrouds etc. The good thing is you only have to make the existing headlight hole slightly bigger. before the mini's you had to dremel out a huge hole in the reflector bowl.....and find a way to secure the projector. The new mini's have a nut on the back that screws on the projector housing from the back. The moromito kit may require a bulb change too. I read Changing your highbeams to HID may have some drawbacks.... they have a delayed brightness(they get brighter as they heat up).....and it's not good to flash'em...I also read HID bulbs actually need to heat up to their operational temp for normal duty cycles. If they don't, bulbs could only last a few months. Ballasts could be damaged too. I just left my halogen high beam bulbs in. I have had a 50W 9006 kit with a relay harness for about 4 years now. Only problem was a relay went bad. no other issues
High beams may be better now, but I highly doubt it lol...u can get a kit for $35 now.

Re: retro fit head lights

has anybody done it with the d2s it says you can use any shrouds except the mini gattling guns and graphite ones so I was wondering how a bigger shroud would look/fit

Re: retro fit head lights

go to the retrofitsource.com

check out their morimoto D2S. these mount through the existing BULB HOLE and are easy to mount. same place will help you with shrouds to cover the projectors.
they even sell bulbs and HID kits however I recommend xenon depot for that stuff.

other typoes of projectors are a bit harder to install. it requires getting the projector to mount to the low or high chrome CUP and being able to adjust them.

the oracle halso someone did a write up TODAY with that install. biggest issue with oracle halos are the inverters. basically its converting your DC to AC. that makes heat and cheap inverters need to be circuit protected not to take down your wk in flames. BE CAREFUL with them.

hidplanet is a forum related to TRS. you can gather a ton of knowledge over there.

The morimoto min D2S are the ones I'm actually talking about haha this whole projector thing is starting to confuse me.
They say rhd or lhd which I assume means left hand drive and right hand drive but they also have an option for x lenses or o lenses do you know the difference?

Re: retro fit head lights

you need LHD....RHD is just that.....for Right Hand Drive lights.

O = optically clear.
X = fresnel lens or has some lines in it like an OEM would.

those would definitely be the easist to install.

Re: retro fit head lights

Oh yeah. On those projectors it is square or round. Go to their site you can see.
Go to projectors page has the details.

I think shrouds with round holes fit the flat projectors.

Look around. Ask them more detailed questions.

The round ones look way better IMO. But another question could I run the om bulbs till I got my hids?
