Seat belt pretensioner

Took my Jeep to the stealership because my airbag light keeps coming on. They told me it was the passenger pretensioner and wanted $315 to replace it since my extended warranty does not cover it.

Has anyone replaced this on their Jeep? Any clue on what this part might cost? I called the stealership parts department but didn't have my VIN # handy so they couldn't give me costs.

Re: Seat belt pretensioner

they are pretty expensive. i have two of them here from when i got new seats, but they are for 08-10 so that wont help you out at all. in order to change it you have to remove the seat.

Re: Seat belt pretensioner

I thought it was attached to the side of the seat belt coil in the pillar. Is that not where it is?

What if I removed my seat while installing my stereo system. I know a lot of people have had air bag light issues after that. Could this be the problem? Would it throw up a pretensioner air code?

the pretensioner is built into the seat belt release button on the side of the seat. there is a yellow harness on it, check to see if you bumped it and disconnected it. that would certainly throw up a code.

Re: Seat belt pretensioner

Just curious do you have the maxcare extended warranty? Would think mostly everything is covered under that plan.

Re: Seat belt pretensioner

I'll check the connection and see if it's lose.

They said I purchased the mid-range extended warranty, and that this was not covered. I'm pretty sure I paid $1,500 and it's for 3 years or 85,000 miles.
