WKs do have SWCs. I beleive this has been gone over/done once or twice before, but i may be thinking of my old nissan xterra.
You may be able to just get the switches, i would start by taking off the back side of your steering wheel and removing the airbag (unhook battery, i beleive a 10mm on each side of the back of the steering wheel will remove it). See if you have the proper connectors already or if you would have to source them from a junkyard. You may also have to "pin" the clockspring harness if the wires arent there. Its all data based system as well.
