Sticker inserts for "grand cherokee" in door molding, or paint only?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there was a sticker or some sort of inlay that fits in the door moldings that say "Grand cherokee" or if they must be taped off and painted manually. Couldnt find anything so I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

No sticker - but I could be wrong! Hopefully the others chime in.

Re: Sticker inserts for "grand cherokee" in door molding, or paint only?

I actually had the same idea a week ago. I didn't have much luck finding any stickers that would fit the inlays very well. I went ahead and taped them off and painted them myself with a good thick coat of everyone's favorite plasti dip! The whole project took me about 15-20 minutes per side. Sorry for the bad phone pics

Looks awesome! How did you tape them off so perfectly? My only problem is that mine are black and I want them to be silver. I guess I could always plastidip and then paint over that!

I would just tape around the letters similar to plastidipping, and spray whatever color you want. Then take a rag with the proper chemical; acetone, or similar and wipe off the paint from the raised molding surface. The paint on the letters will remain.

Really cleaning the area well and using a primer will help the paint to stick.

I should have taken more pictures.... The process overall is pretty simple. I would have used the paint process like said above, but didn't want it to be permanent. I used 1" blue painters tape and put it over the emblem. Then pushed around the outline of each letter with my finger. You should then be able to see the "Grand Cherokee" logo pretty clearly through the tape. With a new bladed exacto knife cut along the edges of the lettering. Peeling out each letter, leaving the main strip and the middle parts of the R's, A, D and O. Tape off about 5-6" past the emblem on all sides, that way you don't get plasti dip all over your paint. Spray on a very heavy coat of plasti dip. You will want to remove all the tape before it dries! Don't worry about getting some plasti dip on the main chrome when taking the tape off, you can rub that off later with your finger.

That's pretty much it. If you have any more questions just let me know

So you have the laredo? If so, those I believe have the raised letters rather than the inlayed letters on the limited's chrome. If your having them sent for paint anyway, ask the painter to mask off the letters before they paint it. It's already black, no need to paint it twice lol. It might cost a bit extra, but would last longer and probably look better in the end. Just a thought..
