Thats why you can see power and fuel economy just by increasing the pipe size a quarter of an inch. As long as you have a good flowing muffler 2,5 inch pipe is more than enough on the three sev.
But...Doesn't increased pressure given the same diameter tube equal more velocity? So...in effect you are creating velocity by increasing pressure?

no, to create pressure you need to comresse he gasses. The smaller piping creates sort of a venturi effect when you try to force air into an smaller opening, all your doing is causing the air to be sped up but by speeding the air up you actually reduce pressure. Its still not compressed more then atmospheric pressure. Large pipes increase flow but the trade off is exhaust velocity. Thats why in long tube headers the diameter of the primaries is crucial, so much so that an 1/8 th inch can mean more hp and torque. A larger pipe makes better power up top but the trade off is low end torque.

I do know that the 3" Corsa systed I installed on my 5.7 added .50 seconds to my 0-60 time and I can literally feel it dogging it in the low RPMs....Over 2000 or so RPMs the beast takes off, but on the low end...blah

thats the trade off i was talking about. Its also the r
eason my duals are 2.5 inch all
the way back. Its equal to putting a 3" straight pipe but single exit on the v6, that and its catless. There is no impedance in my setup other than the bends in the pipe

I have shown up many a stock 5.7 and 5.3 vortecs and the occasional 4.7. I even took down a hemi ram up top. It was an older one but still. That said, ill get creamed by a new hemi ram by about three in the 1/8th mile
