If that happened it would have stalled right away and wouldn't have run at all it wouldn't have been able to compress a valve vertically, it wouldn't have fit horizontal across the bore. The starter doesn't have enough power to break a valve stem like that when it's vertical either.

a valve that falls in doesn't fall completely in when it happens and a valve spring can break even at idle if the vehicle has been driven hard (surging the engine). I also wasn't referring to the stem breaking, but the surface of the valve chipping from piston contact

Yeah it's unlikely the valve stem would break like that. We shall see once I get my little camera.

but I also think the loss of compression could be caused by a valve seat coming out. that would prevent a valve from fully closing and the noise you're hearing is all the play in the valve train from the open valve. let us know what you find bro, im very curious as to what happened in cylinder 6.

Well if it was just a valve seat it wouldn't close the spark plug gap.

yeah I haven't quite figured out how that situation and the plug are related lol. I was just throwing that out there.

a few weeks before I left Campbell I saw a 07 3.7 in the shop I go play in getting new heads because of dropped seats. apparently the owner over headed the motor and drove it back to post over 60 miles like that before it quit. Problem is the steal valve seats in an aluminum head. they are prone to failing when over heated. luckily I pay special attention to the temp when racing. I have sustained 100+ for 5 miles when doing some testing and the temp never got close to half. stayed around 190-200 deg.

Twice in my jeeps ownership it has it come to halfway between 3/4ths and the red. First time was a year back when it busted the radiator off-roading. Last time it was about a month ago when I replaced the water pump, lower hose fell off (damn factory clamp broke) and I had to fill it up with regular distiller water.

I had a trans temp warning once at the track during mid burn out. I made my pass and let her cool for a while before I ran in midnight madness. I was running time trials for trophy class when it happened. Temps that day was 89* at 1930hrs. (7:30pm for you non military types lol) that was the only time it happened, and I have done multiple burns since with no issue.

Washed it disconnected the battery and covered her up. Not the right size but for a $20 cover it takes care of the paint.
