What did you do to your WK today?

Then my whole jeep began shaking, ridiculously. Pulled over, thought maybe had a flat tire, nope all good. Began driving again and there was the shake. Pulled over again and smelt gear oil towards the rear, didn't see any leaks, nada. Drove a little further and couldn't take it. Called AAA who isn't authorized to get me from the road I was on so got off the next exit and waited for them, and towed to my mechanic. There were no leaks where I was parked waiting, but still had that gear oil smell. 5 months with this WK and it's been flatbedded and at the mechanic 3 times. Ughs. Had my WJ with much more mileage, and less problems. Anyways 4.7 v8, just hit 68K miles, stock. Any one have any ideas? Hopefully shop is able to take a look at it today, and at least let me know what's up, otherwise waits until Monday. And I had planned on installing new headunit tomorrow night, and pulling the switch panel above and below the climate control to send to diablo to have the bulbs replaced. oh wells, those are going to be delayed.
I would almost guarantee you blew the rear end. The shaking, whining, and smell all points to blowing that diff. Gears and bearings probably shot, not gonna be cheap if you're not able to do it yourself. Possible warranty if you just got it??? Upside is you're halfway to a gear swap if you wana step up a bit...

Any advice about this? I asked if worth it to go used, they said up to me. Also said that new is going to be few grand, and rebuilt will be over a grand.

Sorry, should've read through the entire post before responding... Sounds like you're on point tho, good luck brotha...

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

Rkirk thank you, unfortunately no warranty on it. Thought about buying one, but I know it's a crapshoot, and looks like I am on the losing end at this point. When I went to buy this jeep my dad told me what the dealer told my sister when she bought her previous used BMW, you're better off putting money away in an account, and if you need it use it, and if not you're not out any. I definitely wouldn't be able to do myself, don't have the tools or that kinda knowledge, unfortunately. I do have a neighbor that works at one of the yards they were trying to call. I texted him and asked if they would have it, and if I can get any sorta discount (as he has been good to me in the past) and he said he will call me later, but they should have it. So that should help out some.

cant complain. had an option to either go in for work or not, and decided to being new and all. Got out early, and at the end of the day completed my oil change and claybar. Sidenote- HATE how everyone thinks it's national BBQ day.
How was yours?

It really wasn't that bad, was it?
let me tell you..half assed it LOL. it was on jack but just enough so i could crawl myself under. Coulda saved myself some time and pain if jacked up more. Guess i was being stubborn after finding out the dam plug wasnt coming off. It was simple but messy. Glad i completed it, sense of accomplishment Woohoo! lol.

advice taken! I was very careful with the impact but i see your guy's point. What about rhino ramps? Worth getting for future oil/fluid changes?

No one was working the floor and store was packed, being a day before July 4th. Only 2 checkout lines and informed us customer service will have to wait till line was clear. Not going through the trouble so just checked out. There was a brand, cant remember the name but it was in some drain plug threads. I can always order it online for the next change.

Maybe just keep wiggling back and forth.

Ok guys, decisions decisions. Should I paint my headlights all black or leave the high beams reflective so I still have high beams?

Should just pop out, I'm pretty sure there's a sort of retaining spring on the splined section of the shaft itself that keeps just enough tension to keep the shaft from walking. Sometimes that setup can be a pita, if you can get a pry bar or standard screw driver head between the diff and first cv to apply direct pressure outward you should be able to get it to release. Don't go King Kong on it and damage the diff case or seals though, it 'shouldn't' be that stuck... Your Jeep has proven to be the problem child and exception to a lot of the rules though soooo.....

Turns out all I had to do was pull the strut out and pull out the cv perfectly straight
