If the alum stem sheared off, which they commonly do and was my motivation for switching to the JK TPMS sensors, it's smoked. The stem they're talking about installing for you is just a standard rubber base stem which will hold air and work for now but your TPMS light will be on until you replace the sensor as it's a complete unit. Look into changing to the JK style, they are a rubber stem with a sensor that bolts to the base, much more durable and if you have a stem break or fail, it's about a $5 repair vs the $50 or so. The frequency of the sensors will depend on the year of your WK, Wkjeeps.com has all the specs. Mine is an '06 so it's the 315MHz which was in the JK's until '12 and is working great, research it a bit and see if it's a viable option for ya if you want.

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

ok, so the shop informed me i was lucky..it's a 2 piece design? the actualy tpms and the stem..they had a stem which they installed...ran about $20 and said it will not throw a light. Idk if they were bsing me but i had to bite.

My prob now is 2/3 of my remaining wheels, the cap is stuck/
Is there any way to loosen it or it's a lost cause?

This is the pic of the broken stem..

No, they're shooting straight with ya, yours must be an '07+, right?they started making them 2 piece because of this exact issue, they're notoriously brittle and prone to oxidation, you absolutely shouldn't be using the chrome caps, the differing metals only compounds this problem, there's tpms stem caps that are either alum (same as stem) or plastic to avoid this. The only chance you have to save your others is to hit it with some penetrating fluid, try and keep the stem(s) as close to 6 o'clock as possible to allow the fluid to soak into the threads, give it some time, hrs or even overnight, then try it. If you use pliers don't clamp too hard because you'll just be grabbing the stem itself and that'll be counter productive, use 'just enough pressure' to try and unscrew it. You may need to do one a day if your stems aren't all on the low side of rotation. It still may be too much corrosion and you'll end up needing to replace the stems anyway, just chalk it up to a lesson learned and use the proper caps in the future.

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

ty 4 the info sir! yep 09. Started the rig after installing it and light showed up but after a min driving it was off so they were straight up. They gave me some plastic?rubber cap to prevent it from happening again. Lucky for me they are a 24hr shop!

Yea i was reading up on threads and im no scientist but something about metal with metal bonding together. I had no idea, nvr had a problem, nvr even heard of something like this happening. Strange thing is, i always learn something new when something goes wrong lol.

I dont want to mess with it, i was actually tryin to chk my tire pressure, preparing for a trip 2 six flags on Tues.. and this fiasco came up.
So on 1 of valuve, i used a socket set to loosen and i see the whole valve turning, not by much tho, the stem is still intact unlike the other 1 that popped off. My question is should i be worried about it? I have a 50ish mile trip on tues and wondering if i should go to the shop to replace it or it's fine?

Should i use the socket to tighten/turn it or leave it alone?

Yup, it's metallurgy 101 brother, can be a real bitch sometimes and one of a mechanics worst nightmares. There's a few different styles of TPMS caps but I prefer any of the plastic ones with the metal stems, cuts the possibility of complications way down. If you're only trying to check the pressure before your trip then I recommend leaving it alone. The one that you've already tried and it moved, You should check the base to be sure you didn't create a small leak at the grommet. Just park your Jeep so the stem in question is @ 6 o'clock and spray the base with some soapy water, let it fill the small recess at the base of the stem, observe for a few seconds and if you see no bubbles you're still good. The TPMS has a tolerance of 7-12 psi, meaning that if any tire in the system breaches the set parameter either way (high/low from the preset allowance which is usually 32psi), it will illuminate your warning light. Now that you have a better fundamental understanding of the system, you can rest easy knowing that your tires are in the ballpark. You may not be able to set them exactly where you want right now but safe to road trip with. Be patient if you're going to soak em with penetrating fluid, there's a lot of corrosion to get through.

I'm off-road quite a bit during hunting season(s), which is most of the year, this setup hasn't let me down yet and I've been through stuff I would've questioned with my Wrangler that I built the hell out of. I love my Jeep and it's gonna suck when it comes time to get a new one because I feel this is the last of the real "Jeeps" that have any off road abilities worth mentioning. The WK2's are nice and all but too much of a luxury ride now, the JK's are still alright, I just don't like that they call them a Wrangler when they've changed so much of the fundamentals that made a Wrangler what it was. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past and need to get with the times, or maybe I'm a purist/traditionalist and always will be... Guess I'll find out in the years to come, but for now I'm gtg.

Any issues with the UBJ's on yours? Mine sit at a pretty bad angle but now it's riding on moog adjustables. I still have a small clunk from somewhere tho....
