I am pretty sure they are on the right way around. But when you said that you made me look! The workshop did put the ball joint bolts in the other way around from that pic, No idea why .. will raise that with them next time I am there...

I actually dont think it is possible to put the UCAs in upside down, the flat plate would be at a strange angle and the ball joint would probably not connect to the wheel knuckle.

Problem seems to be happening on both sides, I will have to go back to the hardware setup and check the ball joint was put in properly .. just one of those things!

Oh trust me it is possible. That's what happened to me. When I had the old ball joints pressed out by a shop they installed the new ones backwards. Everything looks just right but then SNAP! After I flipped it haven't had an issue. If you leave it jacked up on jackstands under the frame for a good 48 hours you'll probably come back to find it snapped.

Can you please send me a pic of your control arm (as it is now) then can compare Though I am still confident this was put on the 'right' way. I have been wheeling in this thing and giving it serrious abuse. I think my issue is with the actual ball joint not being put on properly. The previous ball joint also withstood abuse, though the boot (and hence the grease) was the issue.

Ok I will take a picture in a little bit. However I have stock upper control arms so I don't know how much it will help.

So replaced my battery and pcv valve today and was trying to get my map sensor too but broke it off in the tube. Anyone know how to get it out? I was trying to twist it but just kinda broke. More 10 year old plastic problems..

Uh oh.... I assume you tried pulling it out with a pick tool and some pliers? I would try and use a tap and die set to thread into the plastic and then turn and yank it out. Worst case you'll have to pull the intake manifold because it's a hard area to work around.

Worth a shot. Screw it in straight and when you unscrew it pull it to one side so it digs into the plastic. Hopefully the bolt just doesn't thread in and out.

Anything is worth a shot if the next thing is removing the whole intake

Honestly it isn't that bad to remove the intake. Remove the intake tube, egr tube, disconnect the fuel line, remove the ten bolts, disconnect the brake booster, unhook one side of the crossover cables and hang them on the other side, unhook the tb, unhook the map sensor( which doesn't apply for you) and it should pull right out. I have done it like 4 times now and I can get it removed and replaced in an hour. The hardest part is putting in the stupid bolts on the egr tube in without dropping them, kinda nerve racking. Luckily I have now eliminated mine

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

I re-painted my Rola Cargo Basket. Semi-Gloss Black. Looks real nice. Didn't take a picture yet. It was turning all grey and chalky. Now it looks great!
