This is exactly what the recall is regarding. The lock cylinder and tumbler fails, it's usually due to excessive weight hanging from the ignition (i.e. massive key chain), applying a lateral force that the switch isn't designed for and can't handle. The secondary issue is a drivers knee hitting the key and switching the ignition to the off or acc position. The issue is a combination of positioning, angle, and strength. If you've hit the key with your knee hard enough to apply direct shear force to the tumbler, that could've caused the damage to the switch, and is just now manifesting itself after some use. You may want to contact your local dealer about it, they may replace your ign switch assembly for you in leu of the recall replacement until they develop a viable solution. I vaguely remember my local dealer asking if I was having issues with mine yet and saying if/when I do that they would take care of it until they have their solution. Couldn't hurt to inquire, especially with the drivability issues you're having, some of your safety systems can be affected when the problem is occurring and that's the driving force behind the recall...

Thank you Sir! Alot of great information. I have never had any key chain on my jeep key so it must just be from my knee hitting it.

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

A couple days ago I ordered interior LEDs for Moose Lee. They came in the mail yesterday. I tried to put em in this morning. The Stoopid dome bulbs are too small. The tag light works, but it's too big. Only ONE of the backup lights works. I hate spending coin on things that don't work!!

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

I had an idea. I went to Sprawl Mart. They had the dome LEDs in a kit. I bought them to "test". They work, so I'm going to return them -now I have a part number...
