Re: What did you do to your WK today?

Rkirk installed the same head unit I had delivered today. I had some questions about it. Maybe I quoted wrong person. IDK if the Moose could handle a sprint booster. It'd be like propelling a brick beyond gravitational force.

Of course I did it myself! Haha!! As a general rule I don't allow ppl to work on my rigs, as it's not often I find "techs" or "mechanics"(I use those titles loosely because they're assigned arbitrarily these days to ppl with little to no training or mechanical aptitude) that I'd trust or that could do the job at hand better than myself. I've digressed though, your original point was install questions, feel free to fire at will, I'm not getting notifications lately on my iPhone when there's a new post so I'll check periodically throughout the day and help where I can.

I've been told it's "trust issues", but that's from ppl that don't do what we do and see what we see. When I do it I know it's done right and won't have any surprises. Replaced my water pump today and threw and thermostat in, new belt, and complete flush while I had the system breeched. Has anyone replaced their pump yet? I discovered a bead of silicone outward from the rubber seal, not sure why anyone would've been into the water pump before I bought it @ 7k miles, but I assume the factory wouldn't have done it. The only conclusion I can come to is that it may have somehow had a leak and the Jeep dealer I purchased it from (certified used, still with plenty of factory warranty) just half assed the repair instead of a new $5 seal... I'm also assuming that's why it started leaking again after a few years, which validates my original statement of not letting ppl work on my vehicles. It was about due for the coolant flush anyway so not a complete waste I guess...

When you take your car to a shop at the end of the day it's always just about how fast they can get your car in and out and make a buck. Then don't care if their not doing something the right way and whether it will cause you problems in the future. They couldn't care less... It's your car not theirs.

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

I knew the answer, I guess I was being polite?
I also understand what you mean about trust. I don't know half (or a 10th!) of what y'all know, but that's why I do the things I know how to do (oil changes and little things like that).
I managed to get the HU installed. It took a while to figure out that I needed the NAV thing connected -even though I don't have NAV.
The dash is all still apart. I have to either do the E-brake safety thing or the bypass. I can NOT get the USB thing to work. IOW, I have a USB drive plugged in, but the HU doesn't see it. I tried with(out) the USB extension. No go. I know it's working because my phone charges...

Exactly, bro! No one treats your stuff like YOU DO!!

I would do more stuff if I *dared*! Rkirk, you said, when you do it, you know it's done right. Sometimes I get in over my head (lack of proper tools -like a lift- or a lack of knowledge). I end up *hoping* it's done right (it usually is). My wife's alternator turned out fine, as did my sway bar -two most recent projects. Prolly small potatoes to y'all, but one day I'll get there!!
