Yeah bro, but, again, it's different when you know what you're doing.

I also understand what you mean about trust. I don't know half (or a 10th!) of what y'all know, but that's why I do the things I know how to do (oil changes and little things like that).
I managed to get the HU installed. It took a while to figure out that I needed the NAV thing connected -even though I don't have NAV.
The dash is all still apart. I have to either do the E-brake safety thing or the bypass. I can NOT get the USB thing to work. IOW, I have a USB drive plugged in, but the HU doesn't see it. I tried with(out) the USB extension. No go. I know it's working because my phone charges...

Do the digital bypass for sure. Super easy to wire in and takes the limitations out of it. Can be had for $10 or less. The usb can be tricky. Go into your settings, with the unit set to "off" and nothing plugged in to the usb (extension is fine), find the option that says iPhone via USB or Bluetooth and set it to USB. I'll double check when I go down to my Jeep and be sure that's the correct process.

That did the trick, Rkirk!! Thanks, brotha! I actually tried that last night, trying to get iPod video to work. I was of the impression that option was only for iDevices (iPod/touch, iPhone, etc).

When I want to plug in my iPhone 5, will I need to switch it back?
Do I *have* to get the $100 cable thing to get *any/all* video?

Well I mean I don't really have any formal education in this stuff and I am definitely not a professional (I'm a software engineer), but I learned thru working on my own jeeps.

Wow! I'm impressed, bro! I really thought you did something like that for a living! I wouldn't be so chicken-sheet if it weren't my DD, or I were FORCED to do it (wife's alternator) or if I had someone looking over my shoulder while I tinkered...

You don't have to switch it back, the unit will do everything except video via USB, calls, music, etc. if you want video capabilities then yes, you have to get the cable. You don't have to get the pioneer brand tho, there are viable options on Amazon and eBay for around $30-$40, but you will need the Lightning to vga adapter too, don't mess with any brand but Apple on that one, got mine on eBay new in box for around $30. You'll need it if you wana use the app radio portion of it, which is pretty cool sometimes but I honestly don't use it that much. I play vids and stream games (mostly college and pro football) to it when I'm out and about, and occasionally I run the dash command app for diagnostics and monitoring.

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

I know (and appreciate) it, bro. But sometimes a question isn't as easy as another pair of eyes and saying, "WTF?! Now whatta we do?"

I*have* taken on more of my own things b/c of y'all!!

It's funny, I'll do things to my house and Inot think twice about it. I spent Wednesday fixing a leak in my shower that was dripping into the living room. Tore up the bathroom and living room ceiling, and I didn't even bat an eye about doing it. I guess it's the same thing. EXCEPT I don't drive the house to work.

It was leaking from here. Cut the PVC, ripped out the old drain, put in the new, cemented in a new piece, and BLAM (6 hours later) it was done.

Man, that was a tangent! Sorry
