You'll need it if you wana use the app radio portion of it, which is pretty cool sometimes but I honestly don't use it that much. I play vids and stream games (mostly college and pro football) to it when I'm out and about, and occasionally I run the dash command app for diagnostics and monitoring.
I've learned to use Apple products (well at least the chargers). I really can't wait to stream baseball!! I did see the parking break bypass for $10/Amazon (I love that site!). I really wanna see the appmode thing in action!! I work for AT&T, so I *might* be able to get the cable for free (or 50% off at worst).
Another guy at work said, "you shoulda asked me. I've got a Pioneer connection..." This was AFTER I had the HU all installed....

You gotta get the texture finish spray man, they sell the Orange peel texture in an aerosol can with an adjustable nozzle for finer or coarser texture. It's amazing how well it can make even a mediocre patch job look decent. Then paint over after its dried and you're gtg.

The app mode isn't quite refined yet, but it works. It's just not as fast or smooth as the iPhone interface, but it's improving. Pioneer has changed their cables periodically so be sure he's got the one you need, if so then just tear it back out and put it in when you get your parking brake bypass. I tear mine out occasionally just to reroute something or change things I may not like. It's easy once you know where everything is and what you're doin...

which model do you have? I have an older one a Z130BT and it came bypassed as I purchased used. But it was just a matter of grounding a wire out at the back of the head unit. Fairly easy and lotta tutorials and videos of how to do it. I need to replace cable for my phone also. Or I guess maybe get the adapter as I went from Iphone 4S to Iphone 6. Works fine streaming with bluetooth, but sounds better when actually connected

That's the older model, the newer generation of head units from most manufacturers require a double pulse from the brake signal. You used to be able to just ground it and be good but now it has to see the ground after initial startup, and sometimes 2x. The digital bypass is just a small digital relay that pulses a few seconds after startup so it covers all variants of the safety feature. I'm sure they'll manufacture the units to defeat this soon too though. I'm not sure if an adapter would work with the newer units, I think it's a matter of analog vs digital video signal output. I didn't waste $ on trial and error because I had the 5s when I got the unit so I started with the Lightning plug. There's probly Intel online about it though...

What's a good inexpensive radar detecter that actually works?
