The '05-'07 have the black nozzle, indicating the first gen of that part. One of the solder joints to the pcb fails after some time of pounding around on the gate. Mine hadn't worked for years, only occasionally as Alex described, I took it apart one day and found the issue, problem is that it's a sealed unit. I cut the back cover off of the lens and manufactured my own assembly using red 5050 smd's. Laid the new assembly into the housing, swapped the harness plug out for one more durable and better suited for the abuse, then resealed the back cover onto the lens housing. I had read of many issues even with the 2nd gen (red nozzle) not lasting, so instead of purchasing the replacement, I just over engineered a simple solution. It's been a few years and multiple hunting seasons, which translates to ungodly off-road abuse, and it's still functioning as well as the day I put it together. Long winded reply, I know, but wanted to be thorough in case either of you or anyone else decided to remedy the problem themselves instead of spending the cash on a replacement that will inevitably eventually fail.

Not today, technically, but day before.
BlackHawk Badge. Removed L A R E D O.

Next is 3 mods at the same time.
Real lower fascia with dual exhaust cutouts.
Located a "suitcase back" hemi dual exhaust. May change the muffler though.
Mopar Trailer hitch receiver and 7+4 electrical connector.
About a month from now. Patience..... paaaaatience.... Sorry. Talking to myself again.

Well this is certainly interesting.... I have the red nozzle on my jeep and it's an 05. I'll upload a pic with a comparison shot of Alex's black nozzle light

I think it's trim based. Yours is a limited and his is a Laredo. However in o8 I think they went all red. Mines a red one

Interesting thought Jeff your probably right. I was just thinking mine might have been replaced at some point and they put in a updated part number

From the research I did when mine went out and talking to the parts guy at my dealer, they should all be black for the early generations. I'd lean towards the prior replacement theory.

Re: What did you do to your WK today?

Yes I know it's not a WK, but I still wanted to share.
I installed a Rubicon Express 2" lift and Rancho RS9000XL, 9-position adjustable shocks. It took 3.5 hours start to finish. And I can *still* only upload one picture at a time....
