I am sure there is something on here somewhere about this ! May be under Srt roof rail delete.
But removal is straight forward flip up the end caps on the rails to reveal the 8 torx head screws remove these and hey presto the rails can be lifted off. Normally people fit the Srt rail deletes which use the same screws to secure them to the roof.
I fit the Srt rails in the summer and the roof rails in the winter to fit my snowboard roof box for the snowboarding weekends in Scotland.
You could always just re install the screws with a small amount of silicon sealant to stop any water leaks into the Jeep , hopefully they wont be too long and touch the inside of the headlining!
If you don't put the screws back in, cover with the SRT deletes or fill with silicone the holes will be showing. Before I put SRT deletes on I just put the screws back in with no silicone. Did not leak. In my opinion the deletes make it look better. The choice is up to you.
You're going to like the results. I will definitely give the impression that you lowered the vehicle.
As others have said, there are 4 Torx bolts to remove the rails. The SRT rails will disappoint you when you see them knowing you spent $100 on them, but they will give you that nice clean look. They have a strip of double-sided tape that runs between the bolts to secure them to the roof. I think I did put a bead of silicone in the holes before reinstalling the bolts. I painted mine to match my Jeep (I know, my Jeep is black, but my SRT rails are BRILLIANT black ). I've been happy with this mod.
When I had my WK, I took the roof rack off and used black vinyl to cover the holes. I used a small piece that spanned just enough to cover each hole, then covered that with a larger piece. Unless you're taller than the Jeep, it wasn't noticeable. I actually liked the look of no rails period versus the SRT deletes. After two years I put the rails back on and left the vinyl in place because I noticed that the rails had originally scratched the clear coat off where they sat.
If youre gonna do it, do it right, and do it the first time! remove all the hardware! when reinstalling, load it up with silicon and put the screws back in with he SRT delete! it will look very clean and youll never have an issue
I took mine off then drove to the parts store to find some of the plastic, push pin, things for body parts that fit. Added a little clear silicone before installing and done for like $5.
Looks great, as in you see nothing.
