13 GC srt8 knock sensor.

hello. i installed a vvt278 cams with the valves spring kit, and i had the heads ported and polished on my 2013 GC srt8.
when i took the car to be custom tuned on the dyno the knock sensor kicks in.
any idea on what might trigger it?
i can turn the sensor off. but its a risk that i dont wanna take on a new car.
drivability is fine. and sounds pretty normal under the hood.
installation was done properly

Re: 13 GC srt8 knock sensor.

Are their any codes? Can you determine what side or is it both sides? Have you verified that the sensors are installed per the shop manual? There is a right and wrong way to install/torque them. Maybe they weren't installed correctly at the factory, or they are defective. Also, what kind of timing advance are the tuner folks cranking into it? What kind/octane fuel are you using and what kind of air/fuel ratio have they set it at?

Re: 13 GC srt8 knock sensor.

Also, who is doing the tuning and what tuning software are they using? Are they familiar with tuning 5.7, 6.1, 6.4 Hemi's? Do you already have a hand held aftermarket tuner, such as a Diablosport, for it?

You for sure don't want to turn the knock sensors off. Do you have some way of monitoring, in real time, your timing, knock sensor status, and short/long term fuel trims? I use DashHawks on both my Hemi's to monitor, in real time, this and many other powertrain functions.

Re: 13 GC srt8 knock sensor.

The car is running at 12-12.2afr , timing is about stock, A degree higher maybe the fuel is rich a little and should be 12.7-12.8. the car is not tuned... Its just some safe afr to run the car with. yes, i have the diablosport trinity t1000, which has the ability to monitor and log all the parameters
But that knock reading seems to be a mechanical issue rather than a tuning issue.

Re: 13 GC srt8 knock sensor.

Yes, you're a little rich on the mixture, but neither the timing or the fuel mixture you are running should cause any KR, unless you're running some sort of inferior fuel. If you haven't already, try to run some "top tier" fuel (http://www.toptiergas.com/), such as Standard/Chevron 91/93. If it's still doing it after that, I'd start by looking at the sensor installation and the sensors themselves. Have you determined chich bank it's coming from yet? How much KR are you getting.....number of timing degrees the PCM is pulling? Also, after the cam install, are you getting more valvetrain noise than before?

I know that on both my 5.7's with aftermarket cams/6.1 valvetrain/pushrods, I get more valvetrain noise than when stock. I have a Superchips Tuner on my WK and do get some KR at WOT (usually 2-5* momentarily), no matter what fuel I am using. I use the Diablosport Tuner on my LX (both engines are modded exactly the same) and very rarely get any KR showing on it.
