Question 2005 4.7 throttle body cleaning tips?

Hi guys,

i've been wanting to do a throttle body cleaning of my jeep(97K with unknown service history) & im hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction.

ive got a 3M throttle body cleaner aerosol ready to go, & im hoping to do it this weekend.

from what ive read, removing the TB should be straight forward, im more worried about how to go about the cleaning once its off.
  • ive heard TB's have a protective coating which the cleaner might deteriorate.
  • also, what should i look out for interms of fouling the electronics (IACV/MAP)?
  • is it ok to open the blade up to clean it? will this throw off the calibration?
  • any other DIY cleaning/solvent recomendations?
hopefully mr FlyinRyan or anybody who has done this on a 05 4.7 can chime in
thanks

Get some little wire brushes and go to town, you. Should remove the tps sensor don't clean it, than clean the Iac really well don't spray it onto the connector just the plunger, with you mileage I would replace the tps also

well i finally got around to doing it! thanks, i actually used a kids toothbrush & some rags. the TB def needed the clean. damn the black stuff really runs all over after you spray it with the cleaner!!
yeah i did change out the TPS, IACV(wow! was this was in bad shape!) & PCV too while i was at it...

btw, what sensor is attached directly before the 4.7 resonator box??(is that the right name??). i thought it was a MAP sensor & ordered one(rockauto) to replace. but its def not the same part.

now ive gotta figure out how to clean my intake sytem behind the TB. i would love to try seaform, but shipping quotes are 6x the bottle cost!!!
