2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 02 sensor help.

Hello I'm a new member here! I love my jeep, all maintenance thus far has been done by myself. My jeep is throwing the code P0138 which is an oxygen sensor from what I'm reading. I've located all four sensors, I'm not sure how to go about finding which one is the right one? I believe it would be after or close to the catcon? Does anyone have a diagram on which one may need to be replaced? I've checked all the wiring it looks good from the eye. Thanks so much happy to have found this forum!

Re: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 02 sensor help.

Your Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) tells you which sensor is in question.

P0138 indicates that the 1/2 Sensor circuit is reading high. The 1/2 Sensor is the No. 1 (Driver's Side) cylinder bank and the No. 2 Sensor is the sensor behind the catalytic converter. The rear (after cat.) O2 Sensors serve only one purpose and that is to determine the efficiency of the catalytic converters.

If you have somewhat over 100K on the vehicle and/or your fuel economy is sub-par, it may be wise to just change them all....not the easiest job on the WK. Here's a thread I did a few years back when I had O2 Sensor issues:

Oxygen Sensors and Their Role in Engine Management--A Primer

Take your time and don't get frustrated should do it. What brand are you using?

I just bought two NTK replacements. About 36$ a piece.

Re: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 02 sensor help.

All set so far! I disconnected the negative battery terminal. Replaced both sensors. The code is gone but on my way home from the gas station, the vehicle started to shake pretty hard. I took a turn and it seems it went away after.

Re: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 02 sensor help.

Changing those sensors should not have any effect on the way the vehicle runs, as they just monitor the cat. effectiveness.

Re: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 02 sensor help.

Sounds like it could be another issue. Yay ... I also hear a rubbing sound on my driver side. Almost similar to a baseball card taped to a kids spokes. I'm not very tech savvy but I'm a great learner and prefer to do anything and everything myself. If it can be done...thanks for your help!

Re: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 02 sensor help.

The clicking sound is often a cv joint, especially when turning. I'd start there. Mine needed the entire front end rebuilt recently.
