Re: 2008+ 3.7 WK owners....ASSEMBLE!!!

IT IS FAWKING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol We had to cut about 6 inches back which required us to move the windshield wiper motor but that did the trick. It is out. It will be shipping tomorrow Ryan. I am stoked.

John- if you pop your hood and look above the TB you will see a metal cowling piece that sits under the windshield wipers, and connects with the firewall. He had to cut a 6 inch deep and approx 4" wide CHUNK of this flap out to remove the intake manifold. I had to do something like this in my WJ when I swapped out manifolds but this was much more intense. I warned Brian beforehand that this was going to be a major process as I was aware it was going to be a time consuming procedure to pull the manifold but I had no idea the manifold was buried THAT far in there.

I still have a hard time believing that Chrysler would deliberately stuff a manifold THAT far in. And I have a harder time believing it took that much material to be removed. I dont see anyone else doing this mod for this very reason.

The silver lining, I suppose, in all this is that from what Brian has told me and sent me pics of, it looks like there is a few areas that can EASILY be improved inside the manifold that are accessible with my equipment. The passages are smooth but have grooves from the molding process that have some boogers 1/4" thick inside.

for a 3.7, i dont think its worth it to cut anything. might as well just buy a new car. the mod wont give enough to outweigh the labor and cost.

The cost isnt much, for me plastic/composite is much easier to contour and reshape than aluminum is, so it takes less time. Less of my time means less money charged.

That being said, if I knew it was going to require major cutting just to pull the manifold, I would have advised against it.

The above argument could be made for any engine less than the biggest offered (in this case the 6.1). Yet people still do it, or at least ask about it. Its ultimately up to them to decide what is worth it and what is not.

Thanks ryan for the explanation. Well since this will probably be the only 3.7L owner who will go forward with this, I am still curious to see the results. Keep us all posted!

Re: 2008+ 3.7 WK owners....ASSEMBLE!!!

Thought this thread could use an update.

I just received the manifold a few minutes ago . I took it out to my car and quickly looked it over to see if there were any obvious areas that needed reworking. the goobers I spoke of previously run deeper than I thought and as far as I can tell at this time, can and should be removed.

The inlet of the plenum has a nice fat lip to it that can be enlarged. I will probably enlarge it, then re-blend it to the casting.

The last thing I noticed is that it appears that there is some mismatch between the runners. In other words, they are not all the same shape. I will have to verify this when I get home and break out my calipers, but just eyeballing it they dont appear to be uniform in shape/size.

Especially considering that the motor is mostly stock and there is no real tuning support for the 07+ 3.7s, I will not be "hogging out" or making major alterations, because doing so would kill any low end that is currently there. When it comes to manifold/head porting, generally speaking "less is more" and more importance should be placed on velocity and removing unnecessary restrictions and casting flaws than enlarging ports.

Here are some pics

The manifold appears to be a two piece design. However I will not be breaking into it.

Nice! So when can we expect the finished product?
