Post 3.7 swap with 4.7 or 5.7 liter?

Would it work if I swapped my 3.7l laredo with a 4.7 v8 or a 5.7 hemi

Re: 3.7 swap with 4.7 or 5.7 liter?

Anything can be made to work, but it would be much easier to just sell the 3.7 and get either the 4.7 or 5.7.

Just about everything (electrical/mechanical) would need to be changed over to swap a v6 to a v8.

If you have or found a donor vehicle it would be do-able.

However, you might be able to swap a new 3.6 for the 3.7. same tranny. But probably just about the same cost involved.

What I like is that the the 3.6 is now mated to a manual tranny and transfer case in the 2012 wrangler. This would be sweet to adopt to a grand cherokee! I just wish theyd make a limited edition manual tranny equipped GC. I miss the 93-94's that had them with the ol' inline 6.

Re: 3.7 swap with 4.7 or 5.7 liter?

I agree, just sell it and buy a limited with a hemi. Not only would it save a lot of time and money, you would get all the perks of the limited. Then you can do performance mods and make some real power.

Buying a 3.6L is gonna cost as much as buying a 5.7L with less power.

If you're gonna go all out, buy a 392/426 hemi and build a serious engine. Either way a swap is going to cost a LOT!

My friend swapped his 4.7L out of his Durango for a 528 hemi with a 727 trans and a 9" ford rear end. The engine/trans with install was almost $30,000. And that still doesn't include carb/4 core rad/ ignition/ exhaust/ gutting the wiring and fabrication custom parts.

It costs to be the boss! Lol

Re: 3.7 swap with 4.7 or 5.7 liter?

Or is there anything I can do to the 3.7l to match the 4.7 l specs as in horsepower or torque? Basically adding 30 to 40 hp and adding around 70 lb-ft

You could go 6.1L and keep the same trans.

Well, i'm just throwing out other options with possibly less complexity and cost. Besides, 210 -> 290 hp and 235 -> 260 ft.lb tq is an increase in power in an engine that weighs less and is better on mileage than his current engine. There will also be great aftermarket support now that the pentastar is in the wrangler.

But all things aside, a trade is the way to go.

Ported throttle body, intake and exhaust are the obvious ways to increase power and not break the bank. You could also swap in 3.73 gears front and rear at the expense of highway cruising and mpgs.

Has anybody ever had a good experience with performance chips?
