Yes, you've mentioned a few shops that do this before but would it even be realistic on the 3.7L?

I've looked into a turbo, and with all the proper equipment, install, labor, custom fab and dyno tuning, I was quoted $6000. I believe a T2?

To me, if I had a 3.7 powered anything and wanted to go fast(er), I would go with boost. At 4800 or so lbs, a 3.7 WK has alot of mass to move. The stock 3.7/4.7 has a compression ratio of about 9:1- which isn't ideal for N/A power. You can't mill the heads much to raise the CR, so you can only make so much power naturally aspirated...Without swapping pistons, rods, etc. Yes heads will provide good gains, but the way the rest of the motor is configured, you can only expect so much.

A turbo provides alot of torque (more than N/A) and would help move that weight without requiring a loose high stall torque converter that most serious N/A builds need.

If you shop around for good deals, and can get help for the fabrication, it can be done for much less than 6k. I charge 355.00 for boosted tuning through SCT.

I gotchya

Yeah, 6K was a quote for "here's my jeep, have your way with it"

I'm going to keep looking around. A few of my friends work at speed shops around here so I could probably get a better deal now. That quote was a fews years back.

Re: 3.7l performance love

Hey does anyone know what size coupler goes on the throttle body side of the intake? 2.5 or 2.75? I'm getting ready to start on my custom CAI and I've tried searching the DIY threads but no one states what size they used.

And as far as the turbo setup goes. The 6k you were quoted sounds about right if they were using all new pieces i.e. turbo, intercooler, injectors, stuff like that. If you were to source parts off of different vehicles I bet you could probably cut your costs in half. And being handy with a welder never EVER hurts.

Re: 3.7l performance love

Yeah, I would want a complete custom header set up.

What do you mean source parts of other cars? Like off scraped cars?

more so used parts from stock turbo cars/trucks from like ebay or whatever.

and to cut down costs it mat even be easier to run a remote mount turbo. cuts down on having to have two custom manifolds made. you can just run one bigger turbo further down the exhaust. its common on v8 cars that have limited room in the engine bay (not like we have that problem )

http://ststurbo.com/universal_turbo_systems

2k for a single turbo system, would only need to upgrade fuel system and have tuned

Re: 3.7l performance love

Yeah I looked into STS... Theres a thread on here somewhere.

Most said they were crap... I could use their idea tho. But I think there would be enough room for one with out the CAI being there, right? Then link it up to the passenger side manifold. (I'd still want a custom header on the driver side )

Any turbos in general I should look for?

Yes stock turbo cars. Like maybe an hx35 from a cummins with an intercooler from an SRT4. Depending on the impedence of the injectors you might be able to get larger injectors from a DSM for cheap. No Chinese Ebay crap.

IMO There's no need to spend a bunch of money on a high end turbo kit that can push 450+ hp when the motor is more than likely still going to be stock. Ive been messing with turbo cars (DSM's) for the last 13+ years and I've learned that you dont need a big pocket book to go fast (to an extent).

I would mount the turbo right after the Y-pipe. Run the charge pipe back to the front to the intercooler (maybe one that has the inlet on bottom and outlet on top on the same side). Then run the pipe in front of the motor by the radiator hose and the frame. And finally run the rest of the pipe like you would a CAI. Thats one of my rough ideas.
