Re: 3.7l performance love

god I love when I see that somebody has bumped this thread.

also I love the idea of a turbo 3.7

do we have enough room for the cooler though? that'd be a strange mount, just the way I'm thinking about our engine bay

also I just put the word out to my buddy who works in a shop, he said he might know where to track down a few cheap hx35's if anyone is interested.

Re: 3.7l performance love

I haven't taken the bumper off to really see what is in there. I'm going to look through some of the other members build threads to get an idea. Also, Since you're not going to be running high boost levels a huge FMIC isn't necessary.

Again, I'm just brain storming here. You can use whatever turbo you would like. Check around and research, research, RESEARCH!!!

I wonder how far along SCT is to get a tuner to work on the later year WK's. Or maybe even a piggyback such as megasquirt.

Re: 3.7l performance love

I know BG has been doing tunes for alot of vehicles. I'm just not a fan of sending off my computer every time I need to change/adjust the tune. I'd rather have something hand held that I can take to the dyno or on the street and tune(SCT or Predator). It's just personal preference.

And i'm going to speculate that the $350 is just a canned tune for a lightly modded motor just like Hypertech and Superchips. The turbo tune and the "live-on-the-fly" tuning services are going to be a pretty penny.

Re: 3.7l performance love

The first turbo on eBay is off a cummins. Like $300-400 used. Idk what a turbos name means. Hx35 the manufacturer or just a size?

Re: 3.7l performance love

Holset is the manufacturer. HX35 is the model number for the turbo.

Try checking your local Craigslist for a better deal. I've gotten two for $250 a pop. One went on my 91 Talon and the other is in the garage.

If you want to do some reading on Holset turbos go to DSMTuners.com and search Holset Turbos. There's enough reading there to last you till Christmas. lol

A rule of thumb for most people is to Start at the ends and work your way in. In other words get a CAI, ported throttle body from FlyinRyan, Cat-back exhaust, some JBA headers, possible a custom y-pipe with high flow catalytic converter. Then comes the Computer tuning.

The motor is essentially an air pump. By modding it your allowing more air to get in and more air to escape thus increasing efficiency and power. Add some tuning to optimize the amount of fuel going into the motor and guess what? More Power!

Gotchya! Thanks for clearing that one up. Haha
I see a lot about "Garrett" turbos

Serious question. If I did pull the trigger on something like this, could I see an increase in gas mileage? If I babied it obviously for this hypothetical question
-increase in torque would make the engine have to work less to pull the jeep which would in turn make for better efficiency? Right?
